In this study, we draw on the structurational model of technology in an institutional setting to investigate how top management affects the development of a firm's business intelligence (BI) ...capability. We propose a multiple mediator model in which organizational factors, such as user participation and analytical decision making orientation, act as mediating mechanisms that transmit the positive effects of top management championship to advance a firm's BI capability. BI capability has two distinct aspects: information capability and BI system capability. Drawing on data collected from 486 firms from six different countries, we found support for the mediating effects of top management championship through user participation and analytical decision making orientation. These findings contribute to a nuanced understanding of how firms can develop BI capability. This study is one of the first to comprehensively investigate the antecedents of BI capability.

Business intelligence (BI) tools help companies rapidly generate insights that guide managers toward operational efficiencies, lead them to new opportunities, and set them apart from the competition. The literature study shows that there is a debate about whether BI tools have an effect on the quality of decisions and the development of businesses. The present research explores the varied empirical facets of BI application through ML models. This study concluded with a discussion of how Machine Learning models can be used to assess the value of BI tools. Machine learning models, fed with historical data and a wealth of input features, can foresee the effect of new systems on metrics like revenue development, customer behavior, and inventory management. Using these models, businesses will be able to better evaluate potential investments in new tools and systems.
In the recent era of technological advances and hyper-competition, business intelligence (BI) systems have attracted significant attention from executives and decision makers due to their ability to ...provide complex and competitive information inputs for the decision process. Following the world of practice, research into the adoption, utilization and success of BI systems has grown substantially over the past two decades. The literature suggests that organizations have largely failed to capture the benefits of BI systems to their full extent and are seeking ways to leverage value from the implemented systems. However, prior studies do not have any comprehensive study that discusses the issues and challenges related to adoption, utilization and success of BI systems. In this study, using a systematic literature review, we present comprehensive knowledge about what has been found in the domain of BI system adoption, utilization and success. A total of 111 peer-reviewed studies, covering three categories – adoption, utilization and success – published between 2000 and 2019, were selected. The findings present the research methods, underpinning theories and key factors employed to study BI system adoption, utilization and success. In addition, the review identified the key issues related to BI adoption, utilization and success and highlighted the areas that have attracted more or less attention. This study also suggests future directions for researchers and practitioners in terms of unexplored themes that may help organizations to obtain value from BI systems.

Before implementing business intelligence in their firms, the manager must thoroughly evaluate it. Absorptive capacity (ACAP) and BI systems are closely related. We assessed the impact of the sub-dimensions of ACAP “acquisition, assimilation, transformation, and exploitation” on BI, Impact of BI on firm performance, and the moderating role of organizational learning. We adopted the quantitative method that comprises gathering secondary data from middle managers in Karachi’s banking industry and analyzing the data using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The study found the dimensions of ACAP “acquisition, assimilation, transformation, and exploitation” positively affect the BI system. The BI system promotes firm performance. We also found organizational learning insignificantly moderates BI and firm performance. Managers can use the model to determine which areas of their company need more development before making the major financial commitment toward the BI system and to determine whether their company is ready to adopt it
This article describes a company’s business intelligence system in the aeronautical sector that is specialized in the production of aerostructures and the supply of aircraft maintenance services. The ...goal of this system is to help the company’s managers make better decisions and improve all the business areas of the company, which operates in “Maintenance”, “Aircraft Painting”, “Manufacturing” and “Engineering” services. “Maintenance” services consist of “Engines”, “Components”, “Defense aviation” and “Civil aviation” maintenance. Here the indicator “I1-General Productivity”, for the “Maintenance” services is detailed. The aeronautical company felt the need to begin the process of digital transformation across all its areas and the business intelligence system that is being developed is a component of the company digital transformation. This digital transformation process is in line with the use of business intelligence techniques. The market has become more and more competitive in the aeronautical sector and this company wanted to stay at the forefront of technology and implement a business intelligence system to become increasingly a reference in its business branch. For this digital transformation, several systems were used, the Oracle database management system to manage company internal databases, Oracle’s SQL Developer tool and Microsoft’s Power BI tool.
Small scale enterprises can improve their operations by implementing business intelligence systems. The business intelligence systems are complex and require expertise to ensure successful ...implementation, hence the need for small scale enterprises to determine their readiness before undertaking the project. To improve chances for successful implementation, this study proposed a framework to guide small scale enterprises on the requirements for business intelligence systems. The design steps defined by Edwards and Goodrich & Tamassia were followed to design the framework. The framework components were informed by the Diffusion of Innovation and Technology Organization and Environment theories, the Information Evaluation Model, and the critical success factors for BIS implementation. A small business may evaluate its resources against the framework components to determine whether to implement a business intelligence system. In future, the framework may be extended to include weights and other criteria to calculate a business’s status.
The information systems (IS) literature has long emphasized the positive impact of information provided by business intelligence systems (BIS) on decision-making, particularly when organizations ...operate in highly competitive environments. Evaluating the effectiveness of BIS is vital to our understanding of the value and efficacy of management actions and investments. Yet, while IS success has been well-researched, our understanding of how BIS dimensions are interrelated and how they affect BIS use is limited. In response, we conduct a quantitative survey-based study to examine the relationships between maturity, information quality, analytical decision-making culture, and the use of information for decision-making as significant elements of the success of BIS. Statistical analysis of data collected from 181 medium and large organizations is combined with the use of descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling. Empirical results link BIS maturity to two segments of information quality, namely content and access quality. We therefore propose a model that contributes to understanding of the interrelationships between BIS success dimensions. Specifically, we find that BIS maturity has a stronger impact on information access quality. In addition, only information content quality is relevant for the use of information while the impact of the information access quality is non-significant. We find that an analytical decision-making culture necessarily improves the use of information but it may suppress the direct impact of the quality of the information content.

The implementation of a business intelligence (BI) system is a complex undertaking requiring considerable resources. Yet there is a limited authoritative set of critical success factors (CSFs) for ...management reference because the BI market has been driven mainly by the IT industry and vendors. This research seeks to bridge the gap that exists between academia and practitioners by investigating the CSFs influencing BI systems success. The study followed a two-stage qualitative approach. Firstly, the authors utilised the Delphi method to conduct three rounds of studies. The study develops a CSFs framework crucial for BI systems implementation. Next, the framework and the associated CSFs are delineated through a series of case studies. The empirical findings substantiate the construct and applicability of the framework. More significantly, the research further reveals that those organisations which address the CSFs from a business orientation approach will be more likely to achieve better results. This study aims to investigate the impact of Business Intelligence Systems (BIS) on the quality of strategic decision-making in top-level management. The independent variables in this study are Data ...Quality, Data Visualization, and BI Management, while the dependent variable is the Quality of Strategic Decision-Making. Additionally, the study explores the moderator variable, BI Scope, to further understand the relationship between BIS and the quality of strategic decision-making. By providing valuable insights into the relationship between BIS and the quality of strategic decision-making, this study contributes to the existing body of knowledge on business intelligence and strategic decision-making. The findings show that BI Management, BI Scope, Data Quality, and Data Visualization have substantial and favorable correlations with the quality of strategic decision-making. Effective BI Management techniques contribute to higher decision-making quality, emphasizing the necessity of BI resource management. The study also underlines the importance of BI Scope as a moderator variable, demonstrating its impact on the connection between BI and quality of decision-making. In addition, the research shows that Data Quality and Data Visualization have a considerable influence on strategic decision-making quality. Using effective visualization tools and ensuring high-quality data improves the results of decision-making processes. The interaction impact between BI Scope and Data Quality, on the other hand, was determined to be non-significant.
With the proliferation of e-commerce, the regional hub of a large-scale logistics company is required to sort and load a large number of packages into different delivery vehicles by dawn and deliver ...them to customers by noon on a daily basis. The efficiency of the sorting operation is thus a competitive advantage which directly impacts the company's service level. In this study, a data-driven business intelligence system for the semi-automated sorting facility is proposed for real-world implementation. To determine the cargo handling sequence, an information-based approach with a multi-criteria index function is developed. Then a simulation-based optimisation framework, which integrates a multi-objective search algorithm with a simulation model, is employed to fine-tune the parameters of the index function to perform optimally. The results of the numerical experiment show that the proposed technique is able to reduce 20% of the sorting operation duration, which equals a reduction of about 3600 man-hours per year. The study is a good example of applying emerging technologies in the logistics industry.
