This article examines state-society relations expressed in the politics of land in Lugu Lake, south-west China, inhabited by an ethnic group called Mosuo. Since the 1980s, Mosuo people have ...spearheaded successive waves of construction booms in the lakeshore lands to enliven a grassroots tourism economy, while economic empowerment has played a key role in reviving traditional household organization, familial relations and cultural practices. However, since the early 2000s, grassroots development initiatives have been subject to increasingly stringent regulation imposed by the local state, on the ground of conserving the natural environment and protecting the cultural authenticity of built environments. Based on this case study, this article aims to enrich our understandings of how the state and society are contingently constituted amidst indigenous development. It does so by arguing for: (1) the ambivalence, multiplicity and uncertainty of the state; (2) the articulations of capitalist ethos, communal interests and moral values in grassroots development practices; and (3) the contestations and tensions among competing development visions, a concept that we elaborate here. Engaging with the notion of the prosaic state, this study pays special attention to the banal encounters through which local Mosuo people make sense of statecraft and state power.
Projects may exist in many forms, depending on the purpose and organisational context. Irrespective of the type and nature, however, the effective management of any project requires a high degree of ...commitment by the project members to the accomplishment of project objectives. The high degree of reliance on external international funding makes project management in non-profit organisations of developing societies a challenging task. The marriage of two entirely different sets of values and philosophical orientations creates an invisible tensile force, impacting the different stages of the project life cycle. The present paper, which is exploratory in nature, broadly aims to study the impact of sponsors’ values on the different project-management activities, including both the planning and the implementation stages of the project. The research involves conceptualisation of the different significant issues in effective project management. The analysis of the identified issues is first made on the basis of the experience of the selected stakeholders in Tanzanian non-profit organisations. The analysis is further linked to the selected context-specific contemporary philosophical thoughts affecting the socio-cultural values in the region. The analysis shows that the variation in the values of project owners and stakeholders is one of the major challenges in the effective implementation of a project in the given context. The study is novel in its approach and raises some fundamental issues arising due to the different philosophical orientations and value-sets of the different partner-project organisations. It is expected that the study will stimulate further academic debate on the broader theme of ‘values, philosophy and project management’. The study is also likely to contribute to knowledge development in the subject area of management in general and practical management philosophy in particular.

The delivery of military material is vital to the progress of the war. But military transport systems tend to be less protected. Once the delivery fails, the operational situation could change ...dramatically. In some other situations, it is too dangerous and may face heavy losses for delivery by soldiers. The development of unmanned systems provides a solution to these problems. Through the analysis of research status, the development characteristics of the unmanned delivery system are summarized, the operational requirements are analyzed, the objectives of the unmanned delivery system and capability requirements are listed, and three typical application patterns are introduced. Finally, the key system factors, development approach, problem and difficulties are discussed.
The paper presents the analysis of the results of the empirical research devoted to the self-development visions of different age and social groups. The conclusion is given in social context and ...personality activity which determine the importance of self-development and subjective vision of its effectiveness. The paper grounds the idea that the specifics of the social situation of personality development, the context of its functioning play an important role in determining the visions of self-development; the distortion model of development, a narrow range of scenarios, broadcast significant environment limit the identity construction of possible trajectories of self -development. The study of the ideas about the self-development of people belonging to different age groups allowed us to draw conclusions about which resources for designing self-development are used in adolescence and young adulthood, the period of maturity. Overall, the study revealed that the significant resources for designing and performing the selfdevelopment are: its value for the individual, subjective activity, reflexivity, existential responsibility, involvement in a variety of human activities, the availability of appropriate models.
The present work proposes to analyze the importance of tourism in the development of an urban area. Taking into consideration the areas with touring potential existing in Romania, we chose Brasov, ...whose variety of resources in this field, can offer countless possibilities of developing the area. In the first part of the paper we presented some theoretical aspects regarding the urban tourism. The present tourism and traveling industry offers many opportunities, enthralling destinations, niche products, brands, offering for sale one of the most complex products on the planet. These elements impose the use of managerial and organizational abilities of a well prepared and enthusiast personnel. The second part includes the general characteristics of the area, geographic, demographic aspects, existing resources, such as the touring potential and the way of improving it, pointing the types of tourism practiced in the area and the touring offer made available to those who see Brasov a possible holiday destination. Finally we presented the touring development strategy of Brasov area, by marking the main objectives and the essential ways of fulfilling them: market evaluation, development vision, development plan and creating an area brand.
Given this constitutional considerations Strategic Planning work to improve the quality of life of families in the Santa Rita Company District Colonel Bogado addresses emerging issues and require a ...responsible treatment in the CIA. located in the Department of Itapúa Republic of Paraguay.
The concrete is observed and demonstrated by the implementation of a prioritized and Method Foda Symphony is that most of its inhabitants, both large and small, lack the minimum conditions to ensure their wellbeing of life. In Ecuador, the promotion of mining by the Correa government has led to an escalation of conflicts at specific mining sites, as well as an intensification of the public debate concerning the ...relationship between resource extraction and development. In this article, we compare the contexts of two different mining sites in Ecuador, the Project Mirador in Zamora Chinchipe and Intag in Imbabura to analyse how territorial dynamics play out in these conflicts and affect the local responses to mining. More specifically, we scrutinize why and how in Intag a strong opposition alongside a clear polarization between the supporters and opponents of mining emerged, while in Mirador both groups remained weak and fragmented. We develop our analysis on the basis of the concept of territory, understood as the totality of social relations historically produced in a particular space and the meanings different groups have assigned to it. By examining the processes of territorial fragmentation of the Shuar communities in the area of project Mirador, and the construction of a territorial identity as part of a broader political project of alternative development in Intag, we can better understand the divergent trajectories of the two conflicts.
African countries are subject to competing visions of agricultural development. Efforts to "scale up" technocratic, market-based approaches focus on productivist indices (yields, income) rather than ...food access. Alternatives advocate agro-ecological practices, re-adoption of indigenous crops and state investment in agricultural extension. We introduce here six case studies on these contested visions from Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Mozambique, Rwanda and Tanzania. Dominant agricultural development approaches neglect differences across class, geography and gender relations as well as marginalise many smallholders. Nevertheless, the everyday practices of small-scale food producers in Africa may strengthen their abilities to navigate and influence agrarian change.
A transformation of our current transport system and individual mobility behaviour is an essential pre-requisite for attaining a desirable future that enables a life within environmental boundaries ...(“safe operating space”) and higher well-being at the same time. Accordingly, this paper focuses on the potentials of a resource-saving, sustainable transport system with reduced, but still satisfactory, mobility. To achieve the vision of resource-efficiency in Europe, a new understanding of mobility is needed: “the mode of travel is the reward of the journey”, meaning that it is not about travelling fastest and frequently, but unhurried (easy-going), infrequently and sustainably. We describe a socially inclusive and innovative transport system that could achieve this vision and discuss the kinds of policy measures that would be required to implement it. Changes are required in many areas including values, preferences, infrastructure, technology, governance and the economy.
