The paper aims to review the history of dialectology at Vilnius University since the establishment of the Department of the Lithuanian Language in 1940. To achieve this, we have set the following ...objectives: 1) to present the teaching of dialectology, 2) to review the dialect material collection, and 3) to examine existing research. Descriptive, analytical, and evaluative methods are applied in the study. The beginning of dialectological research is associated with the name of Antanas Salys. The works of Aleksas Girdenis and Zigmas Zinkevičius are also discussed in the paper, as well as the teaching of the dialectology subject, methods of collecting dialectological material and directions of dialectological research. The paper distinguishes the paradigms of traditional, structural, and new dialectology dialectology, and examines their methodological similarities and differences. The most important conclusions and summaries of the paper are fundamentally related to dialectological paradigms: in more than eighty years since the first dialectology subject taught at Vilnius University, the understanding of dialectology has changed. The stage of traditional dialectology at the University was extremely important, as it produced the most fundamental works that are still used today. The structural dialectology paradigm and Prof. Girdenis Dialectology School that trained a large group of productively working Lithuanian dialectologists has flourished over the years. Currently, the new paradigm of dialectology is making its way, offering new theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of dialects.
Šio straipsnio tyrimo objektas yra dialektologija Vilniaus universitete. Straipsnio tikslas – apžvelgti dialektologijos istoriją nuo Lietuvių kalbos katedros įkūrimo universitete 1940 m. rugsėjo 11 d. iki šių dienų. Tikslui pasiekti išsikelti tokie uždaviniai: išnagrinėti šios lingvistinės disciplinos svarbiausius aspektus: 1) dialektologijos dėstymą, 2) tarmių medžiagos kaupimą, 3) tarmių mokslinius tyrimus. Straipsnyje taikomi deskriptyvinis, analitinis ir vertinamasis metodai. Dialektologinių tyrimų pradžia siejama su Antano Salio vardu. Dėmesys skiriamas ir Alekso Girdenio ir Zigmo Zinkevičiaus darbams aptarti, apžvelgiamas dialektologijos kurso dėstymas, dialektologinės medžiagos kaupimo būdai ir dialektologinių tyrimų kryptys. Išskiriamos ir nagrinėjamos tradicinės, struktūrinės ir naujosios dialektologijos paradigmos, jų metodologiniai panašumai ir skirtumai. Su dialektologinėmis paradigmomis iš esmės susijusios svarbiausios straipsnio išvados ir apibendrinimai: per daugiau kaip aštuoniasdešimt metų – nuo pirmojo dialektologijos kurso iki dabartinio – Vilniaus universitete supratimas apie kalbamąjį mokslą kito. Tradicinės dialektologijos etapas Universitete buvo itin svarbus – juo pasirodė daugiausiai fundamentinių darbų, kuriais remiamasi dar ir šiandien. Vėliau suklestėjo struktūrinės dialektologijos paradigma ir prof. A. Girdenio dialektologijos mokykla, parengusi didelį būrį produktyviai dirbančių lietuvių dialektologų. Šiuo metu kelią skinasi naujosios dialektologijos paradigma, siūlanti naujų teorinių ir metodologinių prieigų tarmių tyrimams.

After the Treaty of Trianon, the long history of research on the Hungarian dialects in the neighbouring countries did not cease. A previous article on the history of research on Hungarian dialect ...islands reviewed the significant achievements of Hungarian dialect research up to 1920 (Both 2020b). In the present article, we summarize the essential periods and results of Hungarian dialect research in Romania from 1920 to the present day. The article will show how in the last one hundred years a Hungarian-language department in a minority environment has redirected its research, resulting in a decreasing share of dialectological research, and how, despite these developments, the Hungarian dialectological community in Romania has enriched the Hungarian dialectology research with significant results.
The aim of this article is to propose a model for studying linguistic behavior and dialectality measurement for scientific discussion. To achieve the goal, the following tasks are set: 1) to briefly ...review and evaluate the previous studies on linguistic attitudes and linguistic behavior, 2) to systematize the methods of data collection and data analysis, 3) to develop a model for studying linguistic behavior and to present dialectality measurement for discussion. The proposed model for studying linguistic behavior and dialectality measurement has been partially verified through an exploratory study, but the results of this study will be discussed in another publication. Now the focus is only on methodological questions. The research model consists of two parts. The first is data collection the second is data analysis. The data collection part consists of two components: 1) selection of informants and 2) formation of a corpus of empirical material. The empirical material corpus formation component consists of five partly independent, partly interrelated points: 1) A questionnaire at the beginning of data collection, 2) Creative tasks, 3) Free conversation, 4) Detailed interview, 5) A questionnaire at the end of data collection. The data analysis part consists of three components: 1) Technical preparation of the recordings (texts) obtained during the creative task, free conversation and detailed interview, 2) Speech analysis, carried out after applying the distribution tables method, and 3) Dialectally measurement and calculating linguistic distance.
Šio straipsnio svarbiausias tikslas mokslinei diskusijai pasiūlyti kalbinio elgesio tyrimo ir tarmiškumo matavimo modelį. Kad tikslas būtų pasiektas, yra keliami šie uždaviniai: 1) trumpai apžvelgti ir įvertinti ligšiolinius kalbinių nuostatų ir kalbinio elgesio tyrimus, 2) susisteminti duomenų gavimo ir duomenų analizės būdus, 3) diskusijai pateikti kalbinio elgesio tyrimo ir tarmiškumo matavimo modelį. Diskusijai siūlomas kalbinio elgesio dėmens tyrimo ir tarmiškumo matavimo modelis iš dalies patikrintas ir atliktu žvalgomuoju tyrimu, tačiau šio tyrimo rezultatai bus aptariami kitoje publikacijoje. Šiame straipsnyje telkiamasi tik ties metodiniais klausimais. Kalbinio elgesio tyrimo modelį sudaro dvi dalys. Pirmoji – duomenų gavimas, antroji – gautų duomenų analizė. Duomenų gavimo dalį sudaro du komponentai: 1) informantų atranka ir 2) empirinės medžiagos korpuso formavimas. Empirinės medžiagos korpuso formavimo komponentą sudaro penki iš dalies savarankiški, iš dalies tarpusavyje susiję punktai: 1) anketavimas duomenų gavimo pradžioje, 2) kūrybinės užduotys, 3) laisvasis pokalbis, 4) giluminis interviu, 5) anketavimas duomenų gavimo pabaigoje. Kalbinio elgesio tyrimo modelio dalis susijusi su gautos empirinės medžiagos analize. Duomenų analizės dalį sudaro trys komponentai: 1) kūrybinės užduoties, laisvojo pokalbio bei giluminio interviu metu gautų įrašų (tekstų) techninis parengimas, 2) lingvistinė analizė, atliekama pritaikius distribucijos lentelių metodą, 3) tarmiškumo matavimas ir kalbinės distancijos skaičiavimas.

The question of how to classify the different varieties of spoken Arabic is a long-standing problem in the fields of Arabic and Semitic linguistics, and it has been addressed by several authors and ...from a number of different perspectives. This collection of articles represents a further contribution to the vast collective effort of attempting to more effectively assess, organize, and understand the varieties of spoken Arabic, applying a classification of Arabic dialects in the broadest possible sense. The authors who contribute to this volume tackle this issue by examining varieties spoken from the Maghreb to the Mashreq and employing various approaches and perspectives, e.g., diatopic and diachronic, syntactical, and typological.
