Recent efforts to improve the quality and availability of scientific research in education, coupled with increased expectations for the use of research in practice, demand new ways of thinking about ...connections between research and practice. The conceptual framework presented in this paper argues that increasing research in educational decision-making cannot be simplified to an issue of dissemination or of motivating practitioners to access evidence-based research but rather is a bidirectional problem in which characteristics of both the research and practice communities must be understood and addressed in order to strengthen ties between research and practice in education.
With the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, Japanese higher education (HE) began the process of full digitalization in the academic year 2020. Considering that Japanese HE was previously dominated ...by face-to-face learning the efforts of the stakeholders to implement digitalization deserve praise. However, digitalization has shown varying degrees of progress, both in terms of the type of education as well as between and within organizations. This study investigates the status of HE digitalization in Japan focusing on central government policy measures, the teaching and learning by faculties and students who are the traditional bearers of education, and the concept of lifelong learning and continuing education, which is exponentially attracting attention as a new area of study. This research also examines how those involved can use digitalization to improve HE and the goals and challenges of the transformation. Although the measures against the impact of the pandemic on the education sector greatly improved the digitalization of education in universities, other essential issues for educational reform became apparent. To take full advantage of the benefits of digitalization, it is necessary to re-examine the factors that hinder it, such as the changes in awareness among stakeholders, and take immediate measures to address them. In this context, dialogue is extremely important. The stakeholders should discuss how digitalization can enhance the value of university education.
The inclusive paradigm is an international movement promoted by UN agencies such as UNESCO, influencing the educational policies of certain countries. Switzerland is among the countries that have ...initiated reforms to make their educational system more inclusive. These reforms have implications for teachers. The objective of this article is to report on teachers' conceptions regarding the ongoing integration-inclusion reform in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. A qualitative methodology was employed, based on 13 interviews conducted and analyzed in light of the theoretical framework of social change. The results highlight that, beyond a principled adherence, teachers' shared conceptions are resistant to integration-inclusion. These conceptions reveal inherent tensions within the inclusive paradigm and its development in educational systems susceptible to other international political influences, such as new public management and neoliberalismo.
Justice-oriented teaching must address how classroom-based disciplinary learning is shaped by interactions among local practice and systems of privilege and oppression. Our work advances current ...scholarship on high-leverage practices HLPs by emphasizing the need for teaching practices that restructure power relations in classrooms and their intersections with historicized injustice in local practice as a part of disciplinary learning. Drawing upon a critical justice stance, and long-term collaborative work with middle school teachers and youth, we report on empirically driven insights into patterns-in-practice in teaching which yield insight into both what justice-oriented high-leverage practices may be, and the cross-cutting ideals which undergird them. We discuss the patterns-in-practice and their implications for teaching and learning across subject areas: HLPs that work toward equitable and consequential ends need to be understood in terms of the practice itself and its individual and collective impact on classroom life. Keywords equity, high-leverage practices, pedagogy, teacher learning, justice, educational reform
This research analyzes volunteers' perspectives on the effects of the 'Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka' (MBKM) initiative on higher education in Indonesia. The MBKM program signifies a substantial ...paradigm shift in Indonesia's educational policy, emphasizing a comprehensive, adaptable, and pragmatic approach to learning. The initiative aims to facilitate the transition from theoretical academic knowledge to hands-on competencies required in the workforce, promoting career advancement, experiential learning, and individual maturation. This study employs qualitative analysis of volunteer narratives to examine the perceptions, motivations, and obstacles to implementing the MBKM program. The results underscore the program's efficacy in cultivating social responsibility and community engagement, facilitating diverse and global learning opportunities, and augmenting professional and personal competencies. Nevertheless, obstacles to adjustment, obtaining resources, and managing academic obligations are also apparent. This study emphasizes the necessity for increased resources, support systems, and flexible policies to address the changing demands of education. This study enhances the scholarly conversation surrounding educational reform and volunteerism in Indonesia by providing valuable insights to inform future policy discussions and educational advancements.
As long-term effects of educational programs cannot be sufficiently addressed by evaluators during short duration implementation grants, researchers become responsible for investigating ...sustainability of effects and addressing concerns of policy makers and grant funding agencies. This study examines the impact of the TAP System for Teacher and Student Advancement on the percentage of students passing Indiana's English/language arts achievement test after grant-funded implementation. The study uses a school-level, quasi-experimental design. Propensity score matching generates a comparison group and regression models are then run, controlling for school fixed effects. The results show that schools who sustained the TAP System significantly outperform matched comparison schools in the first post-grant year and the improved performance persists through the third year. Key Words evaluation; sustainable implementation; sustaining improved outcomes; English / language arts achievement; TAP System for Teacher and Student Advancement; long-term effects; school reform
Agreement with living conditions also implies compliance with the increasingly dramatic changes to which the civilization, society, and the people are exposed. The imperative response of society and ...civilization to changes that are inevitable but evident, with even clearer and more predictable consequences, must be the best in order to be good enough. It should be said that progress improves the quality of life and life expectancy, but there is also the fact that cardiovascular diseases, which can be associated with modern living conditions, are the main cause of death in most of the population. Kinesiology education can have a long-term historical effect only if it is the best because it must be innovative and vital, and it has to question the alignment between scientific theory and practice with new scientific achievements every day. It should be viewed in the light of the lifelong impact that is initiated by the education system with its mandatory stages, as the optimal, well-prepared, and scientifically and professionally based response. All reforms should focus on the affirmation of that response, providing it with the necessary time, optimum staff training and the necessary material conditions. Investing in educational sciences in general and applied kinesiology disciplines in particular cannot be in vain. These professionals should inform themselves about the scientific achievements that constantly affirm the benefits of physical exercise in general, and physical and health culture in particular
