Los manuales escolares son el recurso didáctico más empleado en las escuelas y juegan un papel trascendente a la hora de potenciar determinadas visiones del mundo, privilegiando unos contenidos ...frente a otros. El objetivo de esta investigación es comprobar el papel otorgado a los personajes femeninos presentes en las lecturas introductorias de cada unidad, en los libros de texto de Lengua Castellana y Literatura, así como la evolución del tratamiento que se da a estos roles a lo largo de una década (2009-2019). Se ha realizado un análisis descriptivo comparativo longitudinal de 18 manuales escolares de 6.º curso de Educación Primaria, publicados por 6 editoriales en los años 2009, 2015 y 2019. Los resultados indican que la presencia de personajes femeninos continúa siendo muy escasa; apenas se cuestionan modelos tradicionales, porque las mujeres suelen jugar un papel secundario, desde el anonimato, frente a protagonistas masculinos con nombre propio. Persiste una visión estereotipada, ya que las mujeres presentan una tendencia a la intervención con papel pasivo; y cuando su rol es activo, suelen presentar rasgos negativos. Es necesario seguir profundizando en el legado de las mujeres desde la lectura, a partir de una perspectiva crítica, transformadora, que las visibilice y las dignifique.
Sunset Oasis (2007), the winner of the inaugural International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) in 2008, remains one of the most important and intricate works by Egyptian writer Bahaa Taher. Based on ...true historical events, the novel introduces female characters from varied nations and social classes. In spite of their differences, we find these women confined in the “margins” of patriarchal societies portrayed in the novel. This paper intends to shed new light on the circumstances of women imprisoned in the “margins” and on how they struggle against such marginalization. Indeed, women as individuals are unable to confront structural oppression and systematic inequality, as they question and reject the “discipline and punishment” of Patriarchy, and thus display an awareness the readers would applaud as ahead of their time. Hence, their seemingly fruitless endeavor is a glorious defeat.

In this paper we analyse some of these theatrical performances, the female protagonism of them and their purpose: to justify the legitimacy of the young Isabel.

The global nature of Cervantes Global´s work is evident in the worldwide distribution of its readers, in the variety of methodologies from which it is studied and in the depth of the texts, which are ...attractive in any cultural context. Cervantes Global illustrates the heterogeneous and dialectical nature of Cervantism with contributions from various countries: Germany, Argentina, Canada, South Korea, Spain, United States, France, Israel, Italy and Switzerland. The volume brings together different but complementary approaches and methodologies that allow establishing a dialogue between different notions and critical categories, as well as promoting a self-reflective and self-critical attitude within Cervantism. The volume contains works on the reception of Don Quixote, but also studies on its female figures, on the equestrian theme, on the canon of Cervantine kings, or on the ideal of the Christian knight. Likewise, it presents studies on other Cervantine works (Exemplary Novels, Persiles), providing a global vision of it.
The paper is dedicated to Andrey Viktorovich Anokhin, a renowned scholar of shamanism of the Turkic peoples of Siberia. The paper precedes publication of A.V. Anokhin's letter to ethnographer Lev ...Yakovlevich Sternberg discovered in the St. Petersburg Branch of the Archive of RAS. The main subject of the letter is female characters-deities in Altai shamanism, with whom Kam enters into an intimate relationship. Anokhin elaborates on this subject using examples primarily from Teleut shamanism, and only briefly mentions shamanic practices of the Shorians, Kumandins, and other peoples of Southern Siberia. Anokhin's material is supplemented by information from his unpublished “Report on Teleut Shamanism” (1912) and his article “The Soul and Its Properties in the Perception of the Teleuts” (1929). In particular, information is given about female deities residing in the fourth celestial sphere (kat); Enem-Jajuchy — the Mother of the Creator; daughters of Eligeni, dwelling on the fourteenth celestial sphere (kat); and about female ancestors worshipped by the Teleuts. The letter of Anokhin was written during a school expedition led by him in the Teleut village of Cherga in the Altai Mountains. In the letter itself, Anokhin gave details of the female characters inhabiting the third, fourth, seventh, and fourteenth celestial spheres (kat). It is noted that in the beginning of the research work initiated by G.N. Potanin, Anokhin started recording Turkic and Mongolian folklore in Southern Siberia and Mongolia, but the Russian Committee for the Study of Central and Eastern Asia of the Imperial Academy of Sciences, which funded the expedition, was interested in the study of shamanistic cult. For this reason, shamanism of the Turkic peoples of the Altai, including the Teleuts, became the main direction of Anokhin's research. The letter by Anokhin is a fragment of the correspondence between the two scientists, partly already published, that started in connection with publication of Anokhin's main work “Materials on Shamanism of the Altaians” (1924). The letter by Anokhin coincides with the publication of the book and represents the answer to a question of L.Y. Sternberg probably posed during the preparation of this publication.
The depiction of female characters in video games is highly contentious. The pushes for increased diversity following Gamergate have heralded more varied representations of women in both independent ...and Triple A games. One particularly interesting video game in this context is Naughty Dog's 2020 action-adventure title The Last of Us: Part II. The game received extremely divisive criticism in part due to Abby Anderson and her functions in the game. Many players were outraged at her muscular, “masculine” build, considering it inaccurate for a woman living in a post-apocalyptic setting, and a form of virtue-signalling. In this paper I examine these players’ complaints regarding Abby and consider how they fit within gaming discourses of realism, immersion, and escapism. I explore what elements players consider to be acceptable as ‘realism' in the context of a post-apocalyptic action-horror video game, considering a prevalent discourse that video games are being increasingly politicised.
The article analyzes the works of Vyacheslav Ivanov on Fyodor Dostoevsky. Using the material from the book “Dostoevsky: Tragedy — Myth — Mysticism” (1932), the research principles and interpretive ...strategies implemented by Vyacheslav Ivanov in interpreting the female characters in Dostoevsky’s novels “Crime and Punishment,” “The Devils,” and “The Idiot” are identified. It is shown that Ivanov’s conception of the artistic features of characters such as Sonya Marmeladova, Alena Ivanovna, Maria Timofeevna, and Nastasya Filippovna are revealed in the context of the “main myth” of the works. The mythopoetic and functional aspects are highlighted as the most significant in Ivanov’s interpretations of the female characters. Additionally, it is argued that the psychological and spiritual characteristics of the heroines are not overlooked by the hermeneutist, as understanding the nuances of their inner world was necessary for him to reveal the mythopoetic functions. Through Ivanov’s interpretations of Dostoevsky’s female characters, it becomes evident that the poet-thinker’s approach to the writer’s works represents a synthesis of philosophical conceptualization and historical-literary perspective.
In a literary work, two characters can be narrated as the attention center that contains the cultural identity from certain generation. Meanwhile, a symbol actually can cause an interaction within ...characters. This research discusses about cultural identity and symbolic interactionism reflected in a novel. There is a novel entitled “Recipe for a Perfect Wife” by Karma Brown that tells about two female characters that are represented as a housewife from different generation. This research uses descriptive qualitative as the research methodology and content analysis as the method in analyzing the object of the research, a novel entitled “Recipe for a Perfect Wife”. This research also uses the intrinsic approach to analyze the characterization, plot, and setting. This research reveals two kinds of a housewife. They are a housewife and working woman, and a full-housewife. This research finds five cultural identities in the past and present time that is related with a housewife reflected by two female characters in the novel by using cultural identity theory by Stuart Hall. This research also reveals the symbol and memory even three concepts of symbolic interactionism that is mind, self, and society based on symbolic interactionism theory by George Herbert Mead.
