The analysis of examples of footballers who have chosen to play for a country other than their country of birth shows multiple practices. However, the most prominent choice is to represent their parents’ country of origin. The research results contribute to studies on obtaining privileged citizenship and opportune citizenship, to integration theories, and to studies of elite migration.
PurposeThe purpose of this commentary paper is to analyze the burst of joy experienced by global football fans when England lost the final match during the Euro 2020 against ...Italy.Design/methodology/approachThe author worked with netnography (Internet ethnography), gathering material from the internet.FindingsThe author would consider the emotional explosion as a creative expression that was possible to happen through football. Football is not only a part of popular culture, it also creates it. It acted as a platform allowing for emotional engagement and covering different issues connected to global politics.Research limitations/implicationsIt is just a small study based on very limited material (Internet sources). However, it highlights every-day use of Internet and the possible amplification of certain sentiments if allowed.Practical implicationsMethodologically, it shows how Internet sources might be used when connected to football. It also provides an insight how Internet users can exchange opinions using sports (e.g. football) as a background.Social implicationsThis text highlights that football can be used as a platform do express/discuss difficult issues and that average citizens can be heard just because the platform is football.Originality/valueTo the author’s knowledge there is no academic text with this issue in focus yet.

A more efficient optimization algorithm has always been the pursuit of researchers, but the performance of the current optimization algorithm in some complex test functions is not always ...satisfactory. In order to solve this problem, a new meta-heuristic optimization algorithm—Football Team Training Algorithm (FTTA) is proposed according to the training method of the football team, which simulates the three stages of the training session: Collective Training, Group Training and Individual Extra Training. By the test on two groups of test functions, CEC2005 and CEC2020, the proposed optimization algorithm (FTTA) achieves the best results, which far exceeds the traditional Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO), Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) algorithms and so on. In the engineering application, a new hybrid wind speed prediction system is proposed based on FTTA. The FTTA is used to optimize variational mode decomposition (VMD) to improve the effect of data denoising. At the same time, based on unconstrained weighting algorithm, FTTA and combination prediction model build a new hybrid prediction strategy. Through the experiments on four groups of wind speed data in Dalian, the accuracy, stability, advancement, and CPU running speed of the system are verified. It is obvious that the practical application ability of the system is much better than previous methods, which can effectively improve the utilization efficiency of renewable energy.
