The facility management approach in hotels differs between organizations. Different issues need to be taken into account in the design, construction, operation and renovation of tourism accommodation ...facilities. As a result of the earthquake disaster that took place on February 6, 2023, it was seen how unprepared we were in terms of safe buildings. The loss of life at GIO in Adıyaman, which initially creates the perception that it is new to its customers, prioritizes drawing attention to this issue in terms of hotels. The aim of the study is to make suggestions to the project management process of medium-sized hotels that need renovation and are mostly operated by the owners, and to raise awareness in determining their priorities. The method of the study is case study. Within this study, the significance of renovation as a hotel facility management tool will be discussed through literature research, and the improper practices at GIO will be examined by conducting a case study. Information was obtained through the hotel's web page, by scanning the news published on the internet and by examining the report prepared by the academicians who were assigned as experts in the case process. The fact that the building's license projects could not be accessed and the business owner could not be contacted limited the case study. It has been suggested that facility management expertise should be used in the renovation management of medium-sized hotels, which are mostly managed by the owners.

Turizm konaklama tesislerinin tasarlanması, yapımı, işletilmesi ve renovasyonunda farklı konuların dikkate alınması gerekmektedir. 6/02/2023 tarihli deprem felaketi neticesinde güvenli binalar konusunda ne kadar hazırlıksız olduğumuz görülmüştür. İlk bakışta müşterileri üzerinde yeni olduğu algısı uyandıran Adıyaman GIO’deki can kayıpları, oteller açısından bu konuya dikkat çekmeyi öncelemektedir. Çalışmanın amacı renovasyona ihtiyacı olan ve daha çok malsahibi tarafından işletilmekte olan orta ölçekli otellerin proje yönetim sürecine öneri getirmek, önceliklerini tespit etmelerinde farkındalık oluşturmaktır. Çalışmanın yöntemi durum çalışmasıdır. Bu çalışma içerisinde literatür araştırmaları yoluyla otel tesis yönetimi aracı olarak renovasyonun öneminden bahsedilerek, GIO’deki yanlış uygulamalar, durum çalışması yapılarak incelenecektir. Otel ile ilgili bilgiler, otelin web sayfası üzerinden, internette yayınlanmış olan haberler taranarak ve dava sürecinde bilirkişi olarak görevli olan akademisyenlerin hazırlamış oldukları rapor incelenerek elde edilmiştir. Yapının ruhsat projelerine ulaşılamamış ve işletme sahibiyle görüşülememiş olması yapılan durum çalışmasını kısıtlamıştır. Daha çok malsahibi tarafından işletilmekte olan orta ölçekli otellerin renovasyon yönetiminde tesis yönetimi uzmanlığından faydalanılması önerisinde bulunulmuştur.
Unicellular cyanobacteria are ubiquitous photoautotrophic microbes that contribute substantially to global primary production. Picocyanobacteria such as Synechococcus and Prochlorococcus depend on ...chlorophyll a-binding protein complexes to capture light energy. In addition, Synechococcus has accessory pigments organized into phycobilisomes, and Prochlorococcus contains chlorophyll b. Across a surface water transect spanning the sparsely studied tropical Indian Ocean, we examined Synechococcus and Prochlorococcus occurrence, taxonomy and habitat preference in an evolutionary context. Shotgun sequencing of size fractionated microbial communities from 0.1 μm to 20 μm and subsequent phylogenetic analysis indicated that cyanobacteria account for up to 15% of annotated reads, with the genera Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus comprising 90% of the cyanobacterial reads, even in the largest size fraction (3.0-20 mm). Phylogenetic analyses of cyanobacterial light-harvesting genes (chl-binding pcb/isiA, allophycocyanin (apcAB), phycocyanin (cpcAB) and phycoerythin (cpeAB)) mostly identified picocyanobacteria clades comprised of overlapping sequences obtained from Indian Ocean, Atlantic and/or Pacific Oceans samples. Habitat reconstructions coupled with phylogenetic analysis of the Indian Ocean samples suggested that large Synechococcus-like ancestors in coastal waters expanded their ecological niche towards open oligotrophic waters in the Indian Ocean through lineage diversification and associated streamlining of genomes (e.g. loss of phycobilisomes and acquisition of Chl b); resulting in contemporary small celled Prochlorococcus. Comparative metagenomic analysis with picocyanobacteria populations in other oceans suggests that this evolutionary scenario may be globally important.
The products of the isiAB operon are a chlorophyll antenna protein (IsiA) and flavodoxin (IsiB), which accumulate in cyanobacteria grown under iron starvation conditions. Here we show that strong ...light triggers de-repression of isiAB transcription and leads to IsiA and flavodoxin accumulation under iron replete conditions. Genetic deletion of isiAB resulted in a photosensitive phenotype, with accumulation of reactive oxygen species and cell bleaching in high light, while the flavodoxin-deficient isiB null mutant expressing isiA was phototolerant. We conclude that IsiA protects cyanobacteria from photooxidative stress. IsiA is the first example of a chlorophyll antenna protein outside the extended LHC family that is induced transiently by high light and that fulfills a photoprotective role.
We complied and analysed a long-term calanoid community data set (1952-2009) with respect to environmental variations in nearly closed seawater lake Veliko Jezero (South Adriatic Sea). Changes in ...hydrographic properties were influenced by deepening and broadening the channel between Veliko Jezero and the sea in the early 1960s, which was in particular reflected by increasing salinity. Calanoid abundance displayed high intra- and inter-annual fluctuations but lacked any regular and recurrent pattern. Calanoids in the lake comprised 22 coastal and estuarine species, with five of them present over the entire study period (Calanus helgolandicus (Claus, 1863), Paracalanus parvus (Claus, 1863), Centropages kroyeri Giesbrecht, 1893, Isias clavipes Boeck, Acartia (Acartiura) clausi Giesbrecht, 1889). Four sample groups were identified by cluster analysis, with the highest degree of dissimilarity between samples from the 1950s and those from the 1990s and onwards. Observed changes - low densities in early 1980s; a shift in the dominant species; reduction and, finally, disappearance of Pseudocalanus elongatus (Boeck); increases in Paracalanus parvus and Diaixis pygmaea (Scott T., 1894) - can be associated with synchronous changes across trophic levels that have occurred in other European seas. The results presented here underline the importance of long-term studies of semi-closed marine lakes and lagoons, as these are particularly sensitive to global climatic changes.

Iron stress-induced protein A (IsiA), a major chlorophyll-binding protein in the thylakoid membrane, is significantly induced under iron deficiency conditions. Using immunoblot analysis and 77 K ...fluorescence spectroscopy combined with sucrose gradient fractionation, we monitored dynamic changes of IsiA-containing complexes in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 during exposure to long-term iron deficiency. Within 3 days of exposure to iron deficiency conditions, the initially induced free IsiA proteins preferentially conjugated to PS I trimer to form IsiA18-PS I trimers, which serve as light energy collectors for efficiently transmitting energy to PS I. With prolonged iron deficiency, IsiA proteins assembled either into IsiA aggregates or into two other types of IsiA-PS I supercomplexes, namely IsiA-PS I high fluorescence supercomplex (IHFS) and IsiA-PS I low fluorescence supercomplex (ILFS). Further analysis revealed a role for IsiA as an energy dissipater in the IHFS and as an energy collector in the ILFS. The trimeric structure of PS I mediated by PsaL was found to be indispensable for the formation of IHFS/ILFS. Dynamic changes in IsiA-containing complexes in cyanobacteria during long-term iron deficiency may represent an adaptation to iron limitation stress for flexible light energy distribution, which balances electron transfer between PS I and PS II, thus minimizing photooxidative damage.
During long-term iron deficiency, IsiA preferably interacts with PS I trimer and forms IsiA-PS I high fluorescence supercomplex (IHFS) and IsiA-PS I low fluorescence supercomplex (ILFS), in which IsiA acts as an energy dissipater/collector. This represents an adaptation mechanism to iron limitation and allows flexible light harvesting, and thus balances electron transfer between the two photosystems to minimize photodamage.
