The applications of Mobile Technologies have received much attention in recent years. They are widely applied in various terrains, including E-commerce, Health-care, disaster relief, reconstruction ...and education learning. However, to our knowledge, few exhibitions of integration of advanced mobile technology and creative applications can be found in previous study. This paper presents a frame work that integrates mobile technologies and Bluetooth communication technology to implement screen combination effects on Android devices. To achieve the Augmented Reality, the proposed system integrates a lot of advanced mechanisms, including Interactive Arts, Display arts, wireless communication, sensor and localization. The proposed mechanism not only increase the interactions between participates but also create novel applications that extend the usage of mobile technologies.

In this paper, we present an interactive installation consisting of a 3 m wide × 1.4 m high touch sensitive wall of ice, which was set up as an indoor installation during a music festival. During a ...one night in-the-wild study, the audience could draw on the back-projected icewall, either directly using it as a touch screen, or remotely via a mobile optimized webpage. We focus on reporting the lessons learnt from this in-the-wild experience, and on user experience aspects of interacting both with the physical ice and through the mobile interface. The results highlight that the material qualities of the tangible user interface are essential for creating engaging and intriguing user experiences, whereas remote interaction through a mobile app enhances the possibilities for social interaction and sharing.

Liminal spaces are transitory spaces between two areas or states. Such areas can be tied to established social behaviour protocols, which, if broken, can create uncomfortable situations. My ...over-arching goal for my doctoral research in Computational Media Design is to create interactive installations in liminal spaces that encourage viewers to reflect on and question these social protocols. My work to date realizes this in two art pieces: A Delicate Agreement, and Conditional Balance, each exploring a different instance of liminal space. In the remainder of my doctoral research, I aim to create two more installations that further explore this space and contribute to informing the design of both interactive art and technologies for interaction design.

This paper identifies a theoretical framework of interactive installations as inspirational artistic probes for human-computer interaction (HCI). It develops interstices of interactive installations ...by drawing from new media and digital art. Performance studies provides key terminology -- in constitutive, epistemic, and critical characteristics of performance -- to illustrate how interactive installations can reference their audiences' social and cultural contexts and foster physical and emotional engagement, and influence critical thinking. This overlaps with HCI concerns but provides an approach that originates in the art-based community, highlighting the relevance of interactive installations to HCI. This connection and the inspirational role of interactive installations are discussed and supported by examples.
Technology today provides exciting new possibilities for creating more appealing museum experiences, since we can exploit the surprise factor of innovative interaction styles to create an engaging ...experience that facilitates the learning process. This research was based on extensive in-site observation as well as surveys conducted at the scene, and it relates to a cultural interactive exhibition titled “Cultural Tourism”. The issues were organized around usability problems detected, social interaction and differences between interaction styles, all of which contribute to increasing our knowledge regarding the use of interactive technology as a means to reduce the distance between visitors and cultural heritage.

This application invites the user to create short Haiku poems by selecting and arranging words that are displayed onscreen. The web-based application is presented on a touchscreen, and displays a ...constantly refreshing pool of words taken from the large collection of Haiku poems written by Jack Kerouac in the 1950s. Once the user has created a new Haiku, it is added to the pool of user-created poems, and information is then displayed about Kerouac's approach to the Haiku form of poetry. The research aim of this project is to explore design approaches that attract interest and then sustain engagement with publicly sited systems, using the themes of "emotional intelligence" and "independent agency". To this end, two versions of the application have been created, each demonstrating a variation on the design approach, enabling comparative user studies to be carried out.

Three different design research topics are presented in this article: how to design social and active play for teenagers, how to design for openended and emergent play, and how to evaluate ...interactive playful installations in situ. The Wiggle the Eye installation, five interactive wiggle benches and a central lamp, was iteratively developed and evaluated with more than 1000 users, at two high schools, one university and a design festival. The installation succeeded in inviting teenagers to play in a social way, yet the interaction design proved challenging: uncoordinated mass usage and a variety of external factors influenced the exploration and discovery process for the users. The presented insights serve as advice for everyone designing for teenagers, public spaces or playful interactions.
Understanding traditional dynamic art forms can inspire interaction design for public spaces. This paper attempts to identify the elements in traditional dynamic art forms that could contribute to ...the design of interactive public art installations. We show an example how these elements can be utilized by designers in a projection-mapping installation to generate concepts for interactions and experiences in public spaces.
