Abstract This article is linked to research arising from the need to investigate the interaction of novice teachers with digital tools to mediate literary reading. Chilean program’s literary corpus consists of mostly classics and teaching them requires various strategies. Novice teachers have to teach this type of literature when they start to work in a school, and they have to fulfill a series of requirements that make their mediation complex. Considering this problem, our aim is to analyze the reception of a digital educational hypertext on a group of six Spanish teachers in Santiago de Chile during the 2017 academic year. The purpose is to find their needs, perceptions, and beliefs related to the mediation of this literature through digital use on secondary classroom. Methodological approach used has a qualitative focus on a Grounded Theory systematic design. The instruments applied were interviews, stories of reading life, and a digital multimodal hypertext designed for this purpose. Resulting categories were consolidated through content analysis. Findings reveal that when these novice teachers take on their institution’s mediation practices, they are apprehensive with using digital means to teach literature and their incipient teaching practice deepens their digital educational literacy lack. It is concluded that their relationship with literature and their perceptions to teach it affect mediation and interaction with educational hypertext, hence, reading identity and multimodal digital hypertext should be taken into consideration in basic teacher training.
This work is part of the researchin the field of teaching literature and theprofile of the reader and the belief systemof teachers in initial training. Its objectiveis to delve into the literary ...biography offuture teachers, paying special attention towho their literary mediators were, since, possibly, they end up acting as mediationmodels in their future tasks as teachers.
Unreliable narration is a fascinating phenomenon. When it is uncertain whether the narrated events can be trusted, opportunities for interpretation arise. This applies not only to classical ...literature but also to children's literature and picture books, as well as various media such as radio plays, films, and even video games. Instances of deceptive narration repeatedly occur, or it becomes clear only gradually that the described events could not have happened as presented. Even exhibitions can address or stage deception, illusion, and unreliability. Pedagogically, this opens up opportunities to stimulate literary learning, introduce aesthetic experiences, and promote critical media literacy. This volume examines the phenomenon of unreliable narration for the first time from a transmedia and didactic perspective. It explores various media and their characteristics, offers systematic extensions of the possibilities for describing reliability and unreliability, and develops concrete didactic models and positions of this phenomenon in the digital age.
The study focuses on Bronislav Wellek, Adolph Donath, Camill Hoffmann, Oskar Wiener and Otto Hauser and their translations and articles on modern Czech literature published in the German journal Aus ...fremden Zungen (1891–1910). This fortnightly established by Joseph Kürschner dealt exclusively with foreign literature. Its openness to all kinds of literary currents and little-known minor literatures was unique within the system of German literary journals. A comparison indicates the key role played by mediators. The primary requirement for their activity was multilingualism, and it turns out that in the case of all the figures under consideration, language did not necessarily have the nationally symbolic significance ascribed by politics, and their identity basically did not depend on their use of one language or another. The progress and success of this mediation was not just decided by the literary standard of the translation, but all five translators were concerned to improve the standard of translation, as well as to change the approach to translation in general. The choice of text and its succeeded publication was determined by the involvement of the mediators in the Czech and German literary context. Hence Bronislav Wellek focused primarily on translations and interpretations of poetry by Jaroslav Vrchlický and J. S. Machar, whom he knew personally and who also introduced him to their own literary and intellectual circles. It was thanks to Vrchlický that he printed his translations in Eduard Albert’s anthologies Poesie aus Böhmen (1893–1895). Machar was responsible for other translations, e.g. Hilbert’s drama Vina, which Hermann Bahr was to help promote in the German-language sphere. Between 1896 and 1898, Adolph Donath attempted to build up his position as mediator between the Moderní revue circle and some representatives of Viennese modernism (e.g. Karl Kraus, Peter Altenberg and Felix Rappaport). For Aus fremden Zungen he translated an impressionistic short story by Luisa Ziková Bílý květ (White Flower). In a fivepart series and an accompanying study modern Czech prose (J. Zeyer, V. Mrštík, F. X. Svoboda, J. K. Šlejhar and R. Svobodová) was presented by Camill Hoffmann and Oskar Wiener. Their mediation activities were based on direct relations with Prague Czech authors of the youngest generation, on whom Hoffmann also focused in his articles for other German journals, though in Aus fremden Zungen he was concerned with surveying the modernist work of the 1890s. Samples of Czech prose were followed on by translations from modern Czech lyric poetry (O. Březina, A. Sova, K. Hlaváček and V. Dyk) written by Otto Hauser. This polyglot and translator from numerous languages was a different kind of Viennese mediator. In contrast to Wellek and Hoffmann, Hauser was only in sporadic correspondence with Sova and Březina. His literary assessment of their poetry was based on his broad knowledge of contemporary European poetry, including minor literatures (such as Danish, Dutch and Croatian) and as such is of importance. These examples show that literary mediation is a complex rapprochement of variously defined and construed contexts, which have their reflected and unrealized limits.
This paper addresses the economics and ideologies that influenced Slovenian literary mediation in four very dissimilar historical periods of Slovenian book production and circulation: the Habsburg ...Monarchy (1 779-1918), the interwar period (Royal Yugoslavia, 1918-1945), the communist period (Federal Yugoslavia, 1945-1991) and the democratic period (the Republic of Slovenia, from 1991). The analysis considers three groups of factors (or constraints) that condition the production and circulation of books (and ideas) in general: economic factors, political (ideological) factors, and networkingfactors. As a small system, Slovenian literature turns out to be special in many respects and only partly governed by market logic. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
The paper deals with the role of a book editoras a key mediatory function in the literary system. It strives to outline the complex network of factors and constraints that have an impact on editors' ...mediatory activities and choices. Three categories of such constraints are analyzed in greater detail: economic factors, political (ideological) factors, and networking effects. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
When faced with the question "Who chooses?" one usually thinks of readers facing a large corpus of highly diverse texts, trying to reconstruct, understand, or explain their internal mechanisms and ...selection procedures as well as external instances that are more or less involved. However, this selection takes place not only in the area covered by reception theory and reader-response criticism, but also, in various ways, throughout the entire literary communication cycle, from production to distribution and reception. This paper illustrates some key aspects of this issue, especially the intermediary function between supply and selection, by giving typical examples of Slovenian publishing and bookselling practices during recent decades and the "transition" into a capitalist market economy. It mainly focuses on examples that far exceed the average volume of reception and sales numbers. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
In preadolescence anorexia nervosa is often developing with young girls presenting a specific kind of personality. Their psychic world could be described as a white landscape. These patients may be treated in an outpatient setting if they agree to a therapeutic contract based on a regular gaining of weight. Music psychotherapy may induce a positive evolution, not only regarding their main symptom, but also regarding their capacity to elaborate in an imaginary and symbolic manner, leading to changes in their fantasmatic organization. This process is illustrated by a clinical vignette. Empirical traces of the positive evolution have been displayed through a follow-up study of the music therapeutic sessions. If the disease sets in, in the middle of adolescence, the archaic fantasies are closer to consciousness and the relational conflicts are heavier. The co morbidity is also more frequent. The texts written by adolescents belonging to the latter group allow giving an idea of their structural functioning. The theoretical discussion is focussed on the core psychopathology and on the opportunity to bring out differential subtypes among the patients defined by the nosological concept of anorexia nervosa.
To explore the factors that influence the choice of light reading, the seventy-five "most useful" customer reviews of twenty-five Amazon, com bestsellers were coded for reasons underlying book ...recommendation. The results show involvement to be most important, followed by author- and theme-related reasons. This highlights the pattern-driven nature of book selection. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
