When constructing the theoretical or conceptual framework for their research, researchers often rely heavily on a "core set of periodicals within their discipline for articles relevant to their ...topic. In this study, an analysis of citations in 265 graduate student research papers, theses, and dissertation was conducted to identify the "core" periodicals in career and technical education research. The findings identified the 50 most frequently cited periodicals by the greatest percentage of students, and these 50 titles were then compared to those periodicals identified previously as the journals that are of greatest interest to career and technical educators. Thirteen of the 67 journals of interest were included in the list of 50 titles. The list of core periodicals produced from this study illustrates the interdisciplinary nature of career and technical education research.
Any engineering librarian will tell you that their researchers' literature needs differ from researchers in other disciplines: Books are used less, and conference papers more, than in humanities ...disciplines. This study analyzes literature cited in theses and dissertations submitted over a three-year period by students in three departments of the University of Minnesota's College of Science & Engineering. The results show how literature type and age differ between engineering researchers and computer scientists and their counterparts in humanities and social sciences. The results also illustrate how particular disciplines within engineering differ in their use of literature and the level to which they make use of the literature of fields outside of their own.
This study investigates the prevailing epistemological and cultural conditions that underlie educational research in Palestine. Using a case study of a major Palestinian University that awards ...Masters Degrees in Education, the study analyzes the assumptions and the methodology that characterizes current educational research. Using an analysis of approximately one hundred recent Masters Theses, interviews with current faculty members in Education, and an analysis of research articles published by those faculty members, the study reveals that the approach to research is strongly inclined toward positivist/postpositivist, quantitative paradigm. This inclination is supported by the presence of certain societal cultural values that facilitate the acceptance of many tenets found in the positivist/postpositivist epistemologies. Overcoming such inclination in this context or in any similar context will require opening a space for a better representation for alternative epistemologies and approaches to educational research. This study argues that changing such prevailing conditions must start by critically reviewing and challenging the basic epistemological assumptions that underpin the dominant positivist/postpositivist epistemologies. The study concludes with recommendations that all the parties involved in the conduct, representation, and funding of educational research should seek to promote epistemological diversity while remaining sensitive to the cultural values of the society. In this issue of the magazine you will get familiar with a research about sex education of persons with disabilities in the Republic of Macedonia; you will read the paper entitled "Behavioral ...problems in children with mild and moderate intellectual disability"; you will get to know with some elements from psychomotor development in premature infants until the end of their third year of life.
With a history of effective treatment of individuals and groups, it is a natural evolution for therapeutic adventure to incorporate families into the treatment paradigm. This article looks at the ...development of adventure family therapy as a specific sub-discipline of therapeutic adventure, including the integration of family therapy theories and a review of the research. Future obstacles, such as scope of practice limitations, lack of theoretical integration in practice, and research limitations are also discussed.
There are a number of discussions in the literature about the issues that second and foreign language students face when writing a thesis or dissertation in English. These include books that are ...aimed at supervisors, as well as books which reflect on students' writing experiences. Few of these studies, however, discuss these issues within a setting where students are attending an instructed course on thesis and dissertation writing, although some authors do touch on this in their discussions about the courses they have taught on this topic. This chapter discusses the experiences of a group of students who were undertaking a course on thesis and dissertation writing at a university in Australia. The group comprised both local and international students, native and non-native English speaking students. As part of the course, the students were asked to write reflections on their experience of writing a thesis or dissertation in English. The students wrote these reflections in online journals that were posted on a blog for comment and feedback from the teacher of the course. The students were doing Master's or Doctoral degrees in areas such as business, economics, education, social work and veterinary science. This chapter discusses the experiences of the non-native English speaking students who were taking the course. Author abstract

Toor considers criteria for determining when one is unnecessarily torturing oneself with a project or struggling to achieve a productive end to it. Every graduate student must know that he or she ...will have a rough period, but they must remember that it will eventually pass, so the motivation is there to keep striving to attain the goal.
The formal literature review within the broader genre of academic writing remains problematic, and despite vigorous interest in other aspects of the genre, largely avoided by ESP researchers. Because ...such reviews are considered highly personal and interpretative, our reluctance to intervene is not surprising. However, the difficulties students are faced with are at least partially linguistic, and therefore the language teacher would seem to have something to offer. Recent developments in schema theory seem to offer a way out of the impasse, and the chance to develop language teaching technologies appropriate to language enhancement programs offered to graduate students in various fields, most particularly engineering. This paper presents results from classroom-initiated research into the use of text-graphing with engineering masters degree students working on their thesis proposals.
In compiling and organizing the vast amount of information contained here, Jones and Shaw have completed a monumental task. ...Wedekind scholarship lacked a comprehensive and readily available ...bibliographic resource. In addition to the meticulous bibliographic documentation (the locations and physical features of the manuscripts, dates and places of publication, drama premieres), each entry's content is further described. While the editors state that they do not claim comprehensive world coverage, their collection of translations gives impressive evidence of Wedekind's international significance.
