Research over the last two decades has identified a group of meiosis‐specific proteins, consisting of budding yeast Spo13, fission yeast Moa1, mouse MEIKIN, and Drosophila Mtrm, with essential ...functions in meiotic chromosome segregation. These proteins, which we call meiosis I kinase regulators (MOKIRs), mediate two major adaptations to the meiotic cell cycle to allow the generation of haploid gametes from diploid mother cells. Firstly, they promote the segregation of homologous chromosomes in meiosis I (reductional division) by ensuring that sister kinetochores face towards the same pole (mono‐orientation). Secondly, they safeguard the timely separation of sister chromatids in meiosis II (equational division) by counteracting the premature removal of pericentromeric cohesin, and thus prevent the formation of aneuploid gametes. Although MOKIRs bear no obvious sequence similarity, they appear to play functionally conserved roles in regulating meiotic kinases. Here, the known functions of MOKIRs are reviewed and their possible mechanisms of action are discussed. Also see the video here https://youtu.be/tLE9KL89bwk.
MOKIRs (Meiosis One KInase Regulators) are meiosis‐specific proteins that orchestrate the segregation of homologous chromosomes. MOKIRs establish key features of meiosis I, including sister kinetochore mono‐orientation and protection of pericentromeric cohesin. This review focuses on how MOKIRs might control a number of kinases, notably Polo, to elicit these effects.
After regaining independence in 1918, Poland inherited five different post-partition legal orders from the 19th century, regulating personal matrimony law on its territory, i.e. Prussian, Austrian, ...Hungarian, Russian and Polish from the times of the Kingdom of Poland. This situation required urgent reform and taking codification steps. The codification task was entrusted to the Codification Commission, established in 1919. Its result was the governmental matrimony law Project adopted in 1929, known as Lutostański’s Project. Unfortunately, it was not passed by the Sejm. It happened because of the opposition of the Catholic Church and other conservative forces. The reasons for this state of affairs were too modern, for those times, legal solutions contained therein, and above all, the possibility of obtaining a divorce. Many legal solutions included in this project can be found in modern matrimony law, i.e. almost a hundred years later. Nevertheless, the very idea of codification and the adopted main principles of matrimony law should be considered a success of Polish legal thought. The more so because many of these solutions were used in post-war Poland in the Decree on matrimony law in 1945 and are known in contemporary matrimony law.
Eligible bachelors and bachelorettes trust matchmaking services reverentially and sometimes go across the seven seas to meet, communicate, romance, and understand their chosen one. Platforms like ...Jeevansathi.com, Shaadi.com, and Bharat Matrimony promise to help them make the right marriage decision and get along for true compatibility. However, they have also contributed to the growing politics of "Sado-Ritual Syndrome" against the female population. Such matchmaking platforms work to convince both parties to manipulate each other with Western matrimony features such as a salaried male partner, a grand wedding, monogamy, multilingualism, and preferences based on profession and class. Shashi Deshpande, in her novel The Binding Vine, written in 1993, has elaborately addressed these features to critically investigate how sex in heterosexual marital relationships strips the wife of choice, respect, and agency by making the husband's ejaculation the major responsibility of the wife. This paper attempts to expose this ideological system of matchmaking and its role in building people's otherness encouraging them to treat human beings as options.
This paper aims to understand the relations between death, marriage and affectusfrom the epigraphicvestiges located in the region of Mediolanum, Cisalpine Gaul, in dialogue with the tragic narrative ...by Lucius Annaeus Seneca in Agamemnon. Through them, the paper intends to investigate the material and textual vehicles, since they are supposed to constitute different spaces of remembrance. Therefore, they indicate different formats, audiences and dates, thus providing more complex and dense interpretations about the private and public dimensions in the way the dead were remembered in the Mediterranean societies of Antiquity.

This study intended to use the film Mona Lisa Smile (1993) as an example to examine how women in the traditional generation of 1950 were gender stereotyped and used to trade themselves off through ...marriage in consideration of a cost-and-benefit analysis. However, as the change of women’s gender consciousness from the conservative to the feminist in the USA of 1950, women began to realize their potential and subjectivity, hence questing for liberal spirit and autonomy to choose their career and husbands based on love. The researchers used the qualitative method, with both the primary and secondary data, to facilitate a latent-content analysis. After conducting a content analysis of the film and the script of Mona Lisa Smile, the researchers took notes regarding gender stereotyping and conventional gender norms in social interactions and conducted a literature review of Becker’s side bet theory and Homan’s social exchange theory to investigate how women in America in the 1950s were disciplined to meet the expectation of social norms to fit the notion of conventional matrimony, and how people, both men and women, while choosing their mates, seek the maximum interest and minimum cost. The film Mona Lisa Smile lets readers have a chance to see the transformation of a marital relationship from the old days to modern ones. With raised gender consciousness, women may now subject their choices to their own will and, hence, apply a different definition to the word “marriage.”
The article discusses the value of matrimonial therapy in the context of domestic conflicts and in prevention of the mass disintegration of marriages. The author describes the basic methods of ...psychological assistance to spouses and analyzes the core principles of the therapist’s work with married couples. The main task of the work is to underline the value of matrimonial therapy in solving the problems between married couples. The implementation and the spreading of matrimonial therapy may have positive influence on the family in modern environment.
Potato psyllid (
Bactericera cockerelli
) is a vector of “
Candidatus
Liberibacter solanacearum”, the pathogen associated with potato zebra chip disease. While the psyllid apparently colonizes potato ...from non-crop Solanaceae or Convolvulaceae, the identity of these weed sources is uncertain. We examined susceptibility of ten non-crop species (one Convolvulaceae and nine Solanaceae) to potato psyllid and Liberibacter, with an emphasis on psyllid populations (northwestern and western haplotypes) and plant species that are present in the Pacific Northwest. Psyllids of the western haplotype survived and developed on all plant species, while psyllids of the northwestern haplotype survived on all species except
Solanum physalipholium
. All species except
Lycium barbarum
and
Convolvulus arvensis
were susceptible to Liberibacter. Results of our study provide the most extensive examination of plant suitability to potato psyllid and Liberibacter and will lead to improved capabilities of predicting which potato fields are at risk to arrival of infective psyllids.
