This Presidential Address offers elements for a systematic and cumulative study of destigmatization, or the process by which low-status groups gain recognition and worth. Contemporary sociologists ...tend to focus on inequality in the distribution of resources, such as occupations, education, and wealth. Complementing this research, this address draws attention to “recognition gaps,” defined as disparities in worth and cultural membership between groups in a society. I first describe how neoliberalism promotes growing recognition gaps. Then, drawing on research on stigmatized groups across several societies, I analyze how experiences of stigma and destigmatization are enabled and constrained by various contextual factors and actors, including institutions, cultural repertoires, knowledge workers, and social movement activists. I conclude by proposing a research agenda for the sociology of recognition and destigmatization, and by sketching how social scientists, policymakers, organizations, and citizens can contribute to the reduction of recognition gaps.

A novel set-membership control strategy is investigated for a class of discrete time-varying systems with unknown-but-bounded noises. Different from some existing set-membership estimation based ...control methods, the proposed control strategy is designed by using state estimation sets instead of some specific estimation points. The controlled performance requirement is modelled as a new set-membership performance constraint which ensures that the controlled output meets the requirement at any time instant. First, the set-membership filtering method is used for obtaining the ellipsoidal state estimation set. Second, a set-membership controller is constructed by utilising the state estimation which is arbitrarily chosen from the corresponding estimation set. Accordingly, sufficient conditions are derived such that the controlled system is asymptotically stable and satisfies the proposed performance constraint in the presence of unknown-but-bounded noises at each time instant. Then, a constructive computational algorithm is provided to describe the proposed control strategy. Finally, illustrative simulation examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Amaç: Bu araştırmada öğretmenlerin örgütsel sessizlik ve seslilik algılarının ne düzeyde olduğu ile bu algılarının çeşitli demografik değişkenler açısından anlamlı farklılık oluşturup ...oluşturmadığının tespiti amaçlanmaktadır. Yöntem: Araştırmanın evrenini 2018-2019 eğitim öğretim yılında Şanlıurfa ilinin merkez ilçelerindeki kamu kurumlarının tüm kademelerinde çalışan öğretmenler oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemi ise 527 öğretmendir. Araştırmaya katılanlara yanıtlanmak üzere demografik bilgilerin yer aldığı "Kişisel Bilgiler Formu" ile Van Dyne vd. (2003) tarafından geliştirilmiş olup Erdoğan (2011) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlama çalışması yapılan "Örgütsel Sessizlik Ölçeği" verilmiştir. Araştırmanın amacı doğrultusunda gerekli olan analizlerin yapılmasında SPSS 22.0 programından yararlanılmıştır. Verilerin normal dağılım sergilememesinden dolayı non-parametrik testlerden ikili gruplarda Mann-Whitney U testi; ikiden fazla grubun olduğu durumlarda Kruskal-Wallis H testi uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Bulgulara göre öğretmenlerin sessizlik ve seslilik düzeyleri "Kararsızım" düzeyi olarak bulunmuştur. Demografik değişkenlere bakıldığında medeni durum ve sendika üyeliği değişkenlerinde anlamlı düzeyde bir farklılık bulunmazken; cinsiyet, okul türü ve mesleki kıdem değişkenlerinde anlamlı düzeyde farklılıkların olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Özgünlük: Eğitim kurumlarında hem sessizliğin hem de sesliliğin aynı anda çalışıldığı az sayıda çalışma yer alması nedeniyle bu araştırma önemli görülmektedir.
With many employees operating in a multiteam environment, multiple team membership (MTM) has become a critical topic across a number of disciplines. Although MTM research is often regarded as being ...in its beginning stages, there has been a recent uptick of research. An integration of the literature at this phase allows scholars to see the most pressing challenges and begin to identify general insights to move research forward effectively. Accordingly, this review contributes to the literature through drawing meaningful connections regarding MTM between disciplines and providing nascent opportunities for future research. The final review includes 44 articles that directly examine MTM. These articles are supplemented by the project and management literatures to elaborate upon the theoretical bases and findings of these articles.
The implications of Brexit for Northern Ireland are profound, given its history and geographical position as a land border with the European Union. Four decades of sectarian violence have been ...replaced by a period of sustained peace, economic growth and development, yet the trenchant political divide remains. The ongoing fractious relations within the Northern Irish Assembly threaten to derail any hope the region might have on influencing the discussion and direction of the Brexit negotiations. Mary C. Murphy offers a detailed and in-depth analysis of Northern Ireland’s relationship with the EU, the role the EU has played in rebuilding the region after the Troubles, and the challenges and opportunities that Brexit might offer Northern Ireland in terms of its fragile politics and economy. Northern Ireland has long occupied a greater political space than might seem warranted, given its size and relatively underdeveloped economy. This space may yet again become the most hotly contested and divisive topic in future Brexit negotiations, if it doesn’t in fact prove to be the key to a successful UK withdrawal and future relations with its European neighbours.
