In Race & Class 65.2, two key articles examined the British war on woke (Hugh Davies and Sheena MacRae) and the role of Tory ‘post-racial’ gatekeepers (Rima Saini, Michael Bankole and Neema Begum). ...This commentary draws out the lessons for activists, from the two articles and campaigns on the ground, as to how far-right ‘theories’ and ideas are becoming mainstreamed by the media, politicians and academics.
Nativism does not only present a concept,
but also an ideological framework as well as a political practice related to identity politics. In the article we
firstly present the theoretical reflection ...of nativism and
operationalise the most important terms and characteristics of this phenomenon. Later, we apply the concept of nativism to the analysis of conservative populist
and/or nativist political actors in the Central European
region. The analysis shows how nativism, as a relatively
peripheral issue in the first 10–15 years after the democratic transition, became stronger in the next period
characterised by a set of crises after 2008. The analysis
demonstrates how the mainstream parties in Central
Europe adopted the nativist and conservative populist
agenda and implemented it into mainstream politics.
Furthermore, the analysis shows how Central European
nativism correlates with the long-term existence of antiliberal streams that were revitalised after the fall of
Communist regimes. These anti-modern societal groups
were reformulated as the counter-cosmopolitan camp
within the polarisation process that is clearly visible in
the political arena.

Les réformes d'inspiration néolibérale de l'enseignement supérieur et de la recherche (ESR) des années 1990, impulsées par les premiers gouvernements polonais de la période postcommuniste, se sont ...traduites par un processus de relative privatisation de l'enseignement supérieur. Dans le contexte de l'inscription de la Pologne dans l'espace européen de l'ESR, une nouvelle vague de réformes a favorisé la mise en compétition des universités. En 2010-2011, le rôle de l'instrument bibliométrique dans l'évaluation de la performance scientifique des chercheurs et des établissements a été consacré. Arrivé au pouvoir en 2015, le parti Droit et Justice (PiS) a renforcé les impératifs de compétitivité et d'efficacité, tout en y associant une dimension idéologique, avec une orientation nationale-conservatrice affirmée. Cet article présente les principales évolutions de l'ESR polonais depuis 1989 et évoque les politiques entreprises par le PiS.
Denne artikkelen undersøker striden rundt vold i nære relasjoner i Russland og Polen, to europeiske land som har tatt en markant nasjonalkonservativ vending de siste årene. Artikkelen viser hvordan ...temaet utgjør ett av leddene i en kjede av temaer som inngår i en mer omfattende nasjonalkonservativ diskurs. Makthaverne i de to landene anerkjenner at vold mot kvinner er et problem, men behovet for å beskytte familien, nasjonal egenart og selvråderett veier tyngre. De blir utfordret av en kosmopolitisk-liberal opposisjon, som i spørsmålet om vold i nære relasjoner har brei støtte i befolkningen. Artikkelen stiller spørsmål om hvor langt den nasjonalkonservative siden kan gå i å bruke vold i nære relasjoner som ledd i sin fortelling om trusler mot nasjonen.
