Background: Vaccinations are currently the key element in the prevention of the spread of infectious diseases. We studied parents' opinions about mandatory and recommended preventive vaccinations in ...Poland.
Methods: A diagnostic survey using an original questionnaire was done in a group of 300 parents.
Results: A total of 3.7% of parents did not vaccinate their children. 90% were aware of the threat potentially posed by infectious diseases, and 73.7% knew that breastfeeding alone does not ensure sufficient protection against them. 28% believed that it is necessary to vaccinate a child against all diseases, 51.7% that the number of vaccinations is insufficient, and 62.7% that vaccine use is safe. 40.7% thought that unvaccinated children should not be able to attend nurseries and kindergartens, as they pose a threat to other children. Postvaccinal adverse events occurred in 21.3% of children, mainly (71.9%) an increase in body temperature above 38°C. 88.3% were informed about possible vaccine-induced complications, most often by nurses (79.7%). 88% of the respondents were aware of the possibility to switch to an alternative immunization program, 92% were informed on the possible administration of recommended vaccines, and 53% took advantage of combined vaccines.
Conclusions: Views on vaccinations were mostly varied, depending on the age, sex, education, and financial situation of the respondents. Most of the parents who did not vaccinate their children believed that immunity can be acquired by infection. They were in favor of a limited number of vaccinations, were more critical of the vaccination program in Poland, considered the vaccines used in Poland to be unsafe, and blamed vaccines for multiple developmental defects and autism in children. Parents whose children experienced vaccine-induced adverse reactions were more likely to have doubts before the next vaccination.
The literature and research on physiotherapy in Hungary are not as complete as the research on physical education, so this article is also incomplete. Our research aimed to report on the experiences ...of physiotherapy sessions for preschool children within the physical education sector, as this area is less researched. Our research presents the experiences of children and their parents who have participated in pre-school physiotherapy in a sample of children attending the Good Shepherd Reformed Kindergarten in Hajdúböszörmény. The results are presented based on the analysis of a questionnaire filled in by 50 parents and an interview with the physiotherapy teacher who teaches in the kindergarten. The survey shows that 8% of parents of preschool children did not know that their child was attending such sessions, 92% of parents were informed, but 20% did not know how many development sessions their child was attending. The majority of parents follow up on their child's development, but consider the information provided by the teacher to be insufficient. The vast majority of parents were also aware of their child's diagnosis. Parents' opinions showed that they consider the existence of physiotherapy sessions important, as they consider it essential for the effective development of a growing organism. Parents also noted positive effects of physiotherapy sessions, such as improved posture, flexibility, reduced orthopaedic deformities, increased endurance, or improved dexterity and hand-foot coordination. Another important aspect, according to parents, is that these sessions are free of charge, take place during nursery school hours and they are playful. According to the physiotherapy teacher, the number of sessions is not sufficient to achieve optimal improvement, given that the vast majority of children only receive development in kindergarten. These results are useful and can be used in the training of kindergarten teachers or further training courses.
Currently, as the number of vaccinated children in Poland and throughout Europe is decreasing. Many factors impact on the rate vaccination and parents' health behaviours may affect the frequency of ...vaccinations. The aim of the study was to assess the association of parents' health behaviors with children's vaccinations.
A cross-sectional survey was conducted from July 2015 to June 2016 to assess to assess the association of parents' health behaviors with children's vaccinations in Białystok city, Poland. We used the the Inventory of Health Behaviours and an original questionnaire including demographic data and questions about vaccination. Three hundred parents were recruited from the Pro Medica Family Medica Center in Bialystok, Poland.
Only 3.7% of respondents did not vaccinate their children. The level of health behaviours was average in 42.3% of the respondents, low in 33%, and high in 24.7%. Significant differences in health behaviours, mainly the level of normal eating habits (p = 0.038) and positive mental attitude (p = 0.022), were found in relation to views on the toxicity of vaccines. Participants who reported that vaccines can cause autism engaged in a higher level of prophylactic behaviours. Respondents who vaccinated their children with combined vaccines had a significantly higher level of health practices.
Parents preferred health behaviours did not effect on children vaccination. Parents who believed in the toxicity of vaccines were more concerned about proper nutrition, had a positive mental attitude, and engaged in a higher level of preventive behaviours and health practices. Parents who did not vaccinate their children had lower levels of normal eating habits. Parents who vaccinated their children with combined vaccines had a higher level of health behaviours, especially in terms of health practices.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to fundamental changes in Northern Cyprus much like all the other countries. Education is one of the sectors that has been affected intensely by the pandemic. This ...qualitative study aims to investigate parents' views about educational challenges, experiences, and responsibilities about their children's online learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic. Telephone interviews were conducted for data collection. Parents described the most performed online education activity as teacher-oriented instruction. Nearly all of the parents complained about internet connections being slow and weak along with teachers' insufficient technology proficiency. Parents agreed that their role was much more challenging and complicated than it was in a traditional education setting.
The model of education in the ethnically mixed area of Slovene Istria is designed to ensure schooling for members of the Italian national community and their children in their own language, i.e., ...Italian. Although also attended by pupils of other nationalities, primary schools with Italian as the language of instruction are key for the preservation of Italian culture and language. The authors present selected research findings that shed light on the opinions of pupils and their parents on whether schools with Italian as the language of instruction develop pupils’ communicative competence in both Italian and Slovene, and whether the existing model of education creates conditions that promote the pupils’ awareness of the linguistic and cultural diversity of their environment. The results of the research reveal that the majority of the respondents consider competence in several languages an added value and that the model of education is adequate and good.
This paper examines the effects of digital storytelling activities (hereinafter: DST) in Science class on instructional effectiveness and learners’ satisfaction in terms of participants’ perceptions ...and parents’ opinions. In line with this aim, a mixed research model was designed, and data were collected after a 13-week implementation from learners and parents. Findings indicated that DST implementation made learners have a high level of satisfaction during learning process. Similarly, parents found DST activities as entertaining and appealing and this provided learners with positive changes in their attitudes towards Science instruction. When instructional benefits of DST process are considered, the striking findings obtained from learners and parents’ perceptions can be listed as; DST process contributes to the development of learner engagement and efforts made in this process, to gain new knowledge and technological skills and to contribute to the development of learners in both personal and social terms.
Background:
The current neonatal screening program (“the heel prick”) involves taking a few drops of blood from almost every newborn in the Netherlands to determine whether the child is suffering ...from one of three congenital disorders: phenylketonuria, congenital hypothyroid, or adrenogenital syndrome. This study investigated the preferences and views of parents and future parents with respect to information about, and consent to, neonatal screening and the possible expansion of the program.
Methods:
Seven focus group discussions took place with future parents, parents with a healthy child, and parents with children affected by disorders for which screening is possible, now or in the future (total of 36 participants). The discussions were audiotaped, transcribed, and analyzed for content.
Results:
Parents were not well informed about what the heel prick involves at present. Nevertheless, they see it as a routine procedure and do not think about the possibility of refusing it. If the heel‐prick program were to be expanded, parents would like to be informed earlier, preferably during pregnancy. In addition, most parents preferred an opt‐out consent approach.
Conclusions:
If the neonatal screening program is to be expanded, parents would prefer for information about the program be given during pregnancy. In addition, they preferred an opt‐out consent approach, on condition that screening was for the purpose of preventing irreversible harm. Parental opinion was divided on this issue if the aim of screening were to be widened. (BIRTH 34:3 September 2007)
The aim of this study is to demonstrate how parents of children who are victims of sexual assault experience the legal process from the children's and parents' perspective. Nine parents, identified ...in the records of three public prosecution offices in three cities in Sweden, were interviewed. The parents described feelings of shame and guilt over what their children had experienced. They felt stigmatized and had difficulty fulfilling their parental role, perceived a lack of information and support from the professionals involved, and experienced a sense of withdrawal from their role as parents, though they felt the professionals who worked with their children were helpful and influential.
Forty parents of children enrolled in a Spanish Enrichment Program (SEP) at
a Southern California university’s children’s center responded to a questionnaire inquiring on
their attitudes toward their ...children learning Spanish, as well as the principles of bilingualism
and the instructional use of minority languages with English Language Learners (ELLs).
While parents appeared to support the SEP and the tenets of bilingualism, and value their
children’s development of bilingual skills, their support for the instructional use of minority
languages with ELLs to help these students develop bilingual skills was not as strong. However,
notably, a large number of participants were “not sure”. This finding hints at the need
for a concerted effort on the part of the SEP’s faculty and staff to provide parents with more
information on the principles of second language acquisition and bilingualism in general, in
order to benefit all children, not just their own
