Many Indian COVID-19 suicide cases are turning the press-media attention and flooding in the social media platforms although, no particular studies assessed the COVID-19 suicide causative factors to ...a large extent. Therefore, the present study presents 69 COVID-19 suicide cases (aged 19 to 65 years; 63 cases were males). The suicide causalities are included as follows – fear of COVID-19 infection (n=21), followed by financial crisis (n=19), loneliness, social boycott and pressure to be quarantine, COVID-19 positive, COVID-19 work-related stress, unable to come back home due to lockdown, unavailability of alcohol etc. Considering the extreme psychological impacts related to COVID-19, there emerges a need for countrywide extensive tele-mental health care services.
This article offers a framework to model the epistemological terrain of the circulation and regulation of knowledge in late-period Soviet society. It proposes that secrecy and openness operated in a ...mutually constitutive “social map of knowledge” that was constantly shifting due to the inability to maintain secrecy as a stable category. Investigating the domain of Soviet science, this article sheds light on the work of institutions such as Glavlit, the state censorship authority, which supported the state’s goal to maintain the contours of secrecy as a static category by repeatedly issuing edicts and restructuring the apparatus of secrecy in the face of constant and destabilizing social, cultural, and technological pressures. This stable but volatile condition encouraged a common language of “speaking in secret” that cut across the Soviet social order. The “social map of knowledge” was one with high peaks, where valuable knowledge was placed in the hands of those with power, even as these peaks were under intense pressure to collapse from a parallel market of speculation marked by rumor, suspicion, and conspiracy theories. This form of “stable volatility” became impossible to maintain in the 1980s, when a deluge of information flooded Soviet society.
News on corporate information can enhance clarity or add to confusion for market participants, especially investors. We explore how two diverse types of information dissemination —corporate ...disclosure and media coverage—influence stock market liquidity by mediating information asymmetries. We conclude that the two information inflows have notable and distinct impacts on liquidity. Our chief finding suggests that information from corporate disclosures induces a wider bid-ask spread, consistent with increased information asymmetries among investors. In contrast, we find that press media coverage—both good and bad news—improves liquidity. This indicates that mass media is a critical channel that provides investors with news to mitigate information uncertainty. Further, this media effect is partly driven by original journalism coverage and assistance for investors' information assimilation. Finally, in the case of stocks in which retail investors' participation is greater, the liquidity-improving effect of mass media is more prominent.

This article focuses on the ways in which women engaged in acts of political violence in Northern Ireland during the Troubles were depicted by the print media. Media is often used to reinforce a ...particular point of view, especially during conflict, when each side wants to portray its own perspective favorably and depict the adversary as negatively as possible. This article begins with background about the Troubles and reviews some of the ways that Republican (generally Catholic) women became more involved in the struggle indirectly for example, by using gendered approaches to 'lure' soldiers, or directly, by engaging in acts of political violence. What is especially important are the ways in which the press depicted these women using gender stereotypes to convey a particular political point of view. The focus on the ways in which violent women were portrayed during the Troubles allows us to move beyond the notion of 'women's invisibility' by reminding us that women and their actions were very visible to the general public through the press, albeit in a gendered way. This analysis provides a more complete understanding of women's roles during the Troubles.
Our study analyses a detailed report, issued on November 18th, 1970, by The Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS), which was subordinated to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during the ...Cold War. The role of the FBIS was to collect, translate into English, and make extensive summaries of information in foreign media, especially those within the Communist Bloc, summaries which would later be made available to U.S. decision-makers. The FBIS was an important branch of the CIA, seeing that the United States sought to identify any vulnerability to the adversary, and that the communist media did not enjoy freedom of expression, but instead precisely reflected the official position of the regime. The late 1970s are all the more interesting as the Communist Bloc`s monolithic unity breaks down and distinct positions emerge (e.g., the Soviet Union versus China, or Romania versus the Soviet Union), while the United States find themselves in a difficult situation in Indochina, the Middle East, or Latin America.

Anecdotes, such as found in the media and chiefly the humor journals and magazines aim at bringing revisited insights on society subjects, which can even be the most serious. Anecdotes reported here on blood transfusion and the transfusion environment, that were retrieved from French news released in the media press between the 1950s to 1980s give a view on what has been achieved since then, but also on what is at a standstill by some incapability in moving forward or in changing minds. Those anecdotes would be used to stimulate or refresh debates in transfusion related-ethics.
