Abstract Marine environment is largely an untapped source for deriving actinobacteria, having potential to produce novel, bioactive natural products. Actinobacteria are the prolific producers of ...pharmaceutically active secondary metabolites, accounting for about 70% of the naturally derived compounds that are currently in clinical use. Among the various actinobacterial genera, Actinomadura, Actinoplanes, Amycolatopsis, Marinispora, Micromonospora, Nocardiopsis, Saccharopolyspora, Salinispora, Streptomyces and Verrucosispora are the major potential producers of commercially important bioactive natural products. In this respect, Streptomyces ranks first with a large number of bioactive natural products. Marine actinobacteria are unique enhancing quite different biological properties including antimicrobial, anticancer, antiviral, insecticidal and enzyme inhibitory activities. They have attracted global in the last ten years for their ability to produce pharmaceutically active compounds. In this review, we have focused attention on the bioactive natural products isolated from marine actinobacteria, possessing unique chemical structures that may form the basis for synthesis of novel drugs that could be used to combat resistant pathogenic microorganisms.
The emerging field of precision medicine is rapidly growing, fostered by the advances in genome mapping and molecular diagnosis. In general, the translation of these advances into precision ...treatments relies on the use of biological macromolecules, whose structure offers a high specificity and potency. Unfortunately, due to their complex structure and limited ability to overcome biological barriers, these macromolecules need to be administered via injection. The scientific community has devoted significant effort to making the oral administration of macromolecules plausible thanks to the implementation of drug delivery technologies. Here, an overview of the current situation and future prospects in the field of oral delivery of biologics is provided. Technologies in clinical trials, as well as recent and disruptive delivery systems proposed in the literature for local and systemic delivery of biologics including peptides, antibodies, and nucleic acids, are described. Strategies for the specific targeting of gastrointestinal regions—stomach, small bowel, and colon—cell populations, and internalization pathways, are analyzed. Finally, challenges associated with the clinical translation, future prospects, and identified opportunities for advancement in this field are also discussed.
Oral drug delivery technologies contribute to precision medicine by enabling the targeted delivery of biologics. The harsh environment of the gastrointestinal tract and the complex structure of macromolecules make their formulation a critical challenge. An overview of the current situation, future prospects, barriers to clinical translation, and identified opportunities for advancement in the field is provided.
Stored-product insects can cause postharvest losses, estimated from up to 9% in developed countries to 20% or more in developing countries. There is much interest in alternatives to conventional ...insecticides for controlling stored-product insects because of insecticide loss due to regulatory action and insect resistance, and because of increasing consumer demand for product that is free of insects and insecticide residues. Sanitation is perhaps the first line of defense for grain stored at farms or elevators and for food-processing and warehouse facilities. Some of the most promising biorational management tools for farm-stored grain are temperature management and use of natural enemies. New tools for computer-assisted decision-making and insect sampling at grain elevators appear most promising. Processing facilities and warehouses usually rely on trap captures for decision-making, a process that needs further research to optimize.
Environmental deterioration brought about by consumers’ non-feasible utilization pattern is putting a pressure on the environment and is obstructing sustainable development. To hinder this impact and ...stimulate a more sustainable economic growth, one solution is to lessen or move utilization patterns from conventional products to eco-friendly products. The authors conducted a review study of green purchase behavioral research across the 6-year period from 2015 to 2021, identifying 108 studies that met our inclusion criteria. The current review distinguishes different pervasive facilitators, motives, and obstacles influencing consumers’ decision-making process towards environmentally friendly products, and it gives potential clarifications for contradictions found in green purchase behavior (GPB). The paper reveals the main determinants of consumer’s GPB, and as a result of the review, 212 variables that affect green purchase intention (GPI) were identified. Moreover, 135 determinants that influence GPB were recorded. In this way, besides contributing to the literature, it will assist policymakers in formulating and employing strategies to persuade eco-friendly purchasing, and it will give an opportunity for marketers to generate proper marketing strategies for drawing in clients and guaranteeing ideal sales.
Cold plasma is an emerging, economical and environment-friendly technology with potential applications in food and bioprocessing industry, including microbial decontamination, enzyme inactivation, ...shelf-life extension, and physicochemical modification. These advantages stem from the cocktail of reactive species and the physical processes that are associated with gaseous electrical discharges. However, when oxygen is present as a component of the gas in which plasma discharges are made, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) could result in decreased food quality. The lipids oxidation induced by an oxygen-containing cold plasma process can eventually affect the acceptability and shelf-life of foods.
Product safety and quality are crucial considerations for the industrial adoption of cold plasma technology, necessitating a comprehensive review. This review critically analyses the oxidative impact of this novel technology on lipids, highlights the practical implications, and proposes strategies to mitigate the challenges.
Cold plasma in oxygen-containing inducer gases affects the lipids in several food materials including cereals, edible oils, dairy, and meat products. Therefore, it is necessary to understand and address its oxidative effects in different foods. Processing the appropriate food types under optimized process conditions along with the careful handling of the plasma-treated foods are among the key considerations to minimize the negative impacts on food lipids.

Having access to clean water is a mandatory requirement for the proper development of living beings. So, addressing the removal of contaminants from aquatic systems should be a priority research ...topic in order to restore ecosystem balance and secure a more sustainable future. The fascinating structures and striking physical properties of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have revealed them as excellent platforms for the removal of harmful species from water. In this review, we have focused our attention on critically highlighting the latest developments achieved in the adsorptive removal of inorganic - metal cations, inorganic acids, oxyanions/cations, nuclear wastes and other inorganic anions - and organic - pharmaceuticals and personal care products, artificial sweeteners and feed additives, agricultural products, organic dyes and industrial products - contaminants commonly found in wastewater using MOF technologies. In particular, we have attempted to give a clear insight into the different synthetic strategies for water remediation, stressing the wide tunability of MOFs. For this purpose, we have classified these two kinds of pollutants into different subfamilies, based on their chemical composition or common use. Finally, we have proposed some future trends and challenges that need to be addressed for widening the range of applicability of MOFs and making solid headway towards sustainable development.

Three limonoid natural products with selective anti-proliferative activity against BRAF(V600E) and NRAS(Q61K)-mutation-dependent melanoma cell lines were identified. Differential transcriptome ...analysis revealed dependency of compound activity on expression of the mitochondrial cytochrome P450 oxidase CYP27A1, a transcriptional target of melanogenesis-associated transcription factor (MITF). We determined that CYP27A1 activity is necessary for the generation of a reactive metabolite that proceeds to inhibit cellular proliferation. A genome-wide small interfering RNA screen in combination with chemical proteomics experiments revealed gene-drug functional epistasis, suggesting that these compounds target mitochondrial biogenesis and inhibit tumor bioenergetics through a covalent mechanism. Our work suggests a strategy for melanoma-specific targeting by exploiting the expression of MITF target gene CYP27A1 and inhibiting mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in BRAF mutant melanomas.

Selective targeting of melanoma cells by limonoid natural products involves their conversion to a reactive electrophilic metabolite by CYP27A1, a mitochondrial cytochrome p450 enzyme, leading to toxic adducts of key mitochondrial proteins. CYP27A1 is a target gene of MITF, the oncogenic transcription factor deregulated in melanoma.
