The first case of mpox in Louisiana was identified 2 months ahead of Southern Decadence Festival in New Orleans, the largest LGBTQ+ Pride festival in the South. With mpox case numbers reflecting racial disparities, the objective was to mount an equitable vaccination response.
The Louisiana Department of Health rapidly pivoted its COVID-19 resources and strategies—specifically, using vaccine strike teams and mobile events, in-state vaccine redistribution through centralized warehousing and shipping support, and community partnerships—to now control mpox transmission. Here, the authors have evaluated state-based Immunization Information System data to examine whether the vaccination response was geographically and racially equitable. Geographic equity was measured by taking into account vaccine availability as well as uptake in areas with high Social Vulnerability Index.
A total of 113 providers were enrolled in the vaccination program, and 96 mobile vaccination events were held in locations frequented by at-risk populations. Racial disparities among vaccine recipients decreased over time, and vaccine availability and uptake were equitable in areas with high Social Vulnerability Indices. However, Black, female, and Hispanic/Latinx patients had significantly higher risk of not completing the 2-dose series than their counterparts.
The mpox vaccination response in Louisiana was geographically equitable, though some demographic disparities remained.
This paper presents the results of a study of program participants’ responses to an innovative project called the Partnerships for Advancing Character program Evaluation (PACE), which operationalized ...a Relational Systems Evaluation (RSE) approach to Evaluation Capacity Building (ECB). We examine which tools and concepts from PACE resonated with participants and were sustained, and why. Analysis of participant interviews yielded sixteen distinct value propositions that they associated with the PACE training. Importantly, a number of them extend beyond evaluation to include contributions to other aspects of program professionals’ work responsibilities and work life. We explore the relationships between the most widely valued PACE tools and concepts and the value propositions they were associated with. These discoveries about the potential value propositions for the RSE approach to ECB hold promise for efforts to increase investment in evaluation capacity, and to strengthen the transfer of learning that is needed for evaluation to be embedded and sustained in organizations.
The Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients has previously reported the effects of adjusting for demographic variables, including race, in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) ...organ procurement organization (OPO) performance metrics: donation rate and transplant rate. CMS chose not to adjust for most demographic variables other than age (for the transplant rate), arguing that there is no biological reason that these variables would affect the organ donation/utilization decision. However, organ donation is a process based on altruism and trust, not a simple biological phenomenon. Focusing only on biological impacts on health ignores other pathways through which demographic factors can influence OPO outcomes. In this study, we update analyses of demographic adjustment on the OPO metrics for 2020 with a specific focus on adjusting for race. We find that adjusting for race would lead to 8 OPOs changing their CMS tier rankings, including 2 OPOs that actually overperform the national rate among non-White donors improving from a tier 3 ranking (facing decertification without possibility of recompeting) to a tier 2 ranking (allowing the possibility of recompeting). Incorporation of stratified and risk-adjusted metrics in public reporting of OPO performance could help OPOs identify areas for improvement within specific demographic categories.
The English Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) initiative aims to make evidence-based psychological therapies for depression and anxiety disorder more widely available in the National ...Health Service (NHS). 32 IAPT services based on a stepped care model were established in the first year of the programme. We report on the reliable recovery rates achieved by patients treated in the services and identify predictors of recovery at patient level, service level, and as a function of compliance with National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Treatment Guidelines.
Data from 19,395 patients who were clinical cases at intake, attended at least two sessions, had at least two outcomes scores and had completed their treatment during the period were analysed. Outcome was assessed with the patient health questionnaire depression scale (PHQ-9) and the anxiety scale (GAD-7).
Data completeness was high for a routine cohort study. Over 91% of treated patients had paired (pre-post) outcome scores. Overall, 40.3% of patients were reliably recovered at post-treatment, 63.7% showed reliable improvement and 6.6% showed reliable deterioration. Most patients received treatments that were recommended by NICE. When a treatment not recommended by NICE was provided, recovery rates were reduced. Service characteristics that predicted higher reliable recovery rates were: high average number of therapy sessions; higher step-up rates among individuals who started with low intensity treatment; larger services; and a larger proportion of experienced staff.
Compliance with the IAPT clinical model is associated with enhanced rates of reliable recovery.

We provided a synthesis of use, summarized key issues in applying, and highlighted exemplary applications in the Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM) framework. We ...articulated key RE-AIM criteria by reviewing the published literature from 1999 to 2010 in several databases to describe the application and reporting on various RE-AIM dimensions. After excluding nonempirical articles, case studies, and commentaries, 71 articles were identified. The most frequent publications were on physical activity, obesity, and disease management. Four articles reported solely on 1 dimension compared with 44 articles that reported on all 5 dimensions of the framework. RE-AIM was broadly applied, but several criteria were not reported consistently.

Effective prevention of intimate partner violence (IPV) among adolescents and young adults is a key strategy for reducing rates of gender-based violence (GBV). Numerous initiatives have been ...developed and evaluated over the past 25 years. There is emerging evidence about effective strategies for universal prevention of dating violence in high school settings and effective bystander interventions on university and college campuses. In addition, there have been some effective practices identified for specific groups of youth who are vulnerable to victimization (either based on past experiences of exposure to domestic violence or previous dating victimization). At the same time, though our evidence about school and college-based interventions has grown, there are significant gaps in our knowledge of effective prevention among marginalized groups. For example, there is a lack of evidence-based strategies for preventing IPV among Indigenous youth; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning+ LGBTQ+ youth; and young women with disabilities, even though these groups are at elevated risk for experiencing violence. Our review of the current state of evidence for effective GBV prevention among adolescents and young adults suggests significant gaps. Our analysis of these gaps highlights the need to think more broadly about what constitutes evidence. We identify some strategies and a call to action for moving the field forward and provide examples from our work with vulnerable youth in a variety of settings.
Background: Released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Framework for Program Evaluation in Public Health prominently features the program evaluation standards (1999). The ...program evaluation standards (PES) include 30 statements in five domains: utility, feasibility, propriety, accuracy, and evaluation accountability. Despite decades of attention to the PES among framework users and others, how public health professionals apply these standards in their work is not well understood. Purpose: The study sought to identify notable commonalities in how the PES are used in public health. Setting: Application of the PES in evaluative work in public health and allied fields. Intervention: Not applicable. Research Design: The study included a search of subscription and nonsubscription sources to identify documents that included explicit content concerning use of standards in evaluative work in public health. Documents identified were screened using predetermined criteria to include or exclude each item in the study. Items included were reviewed and coded using codes developed before examining all documents. For each code, reviewers discussed data from all documents to identify commonalities and variations in application of standards. Findings: The literature search returned 405 documents to be screened (179 from subscription and 226 from nonsubscription sources). Thirty-eight items were included in the study based on initial screening (11 from subscription and 27 from nonsubscription sources). The study revealed that authors discussed standards as a regular component of evaluation work, but precisely how standards were used was not always explained in detail. Also, authors did not always discuss standards statements but sometimes solely focused on general domains (e.g., feasibility or accuracy). When authors discussed specific statements, they were more descriptive in how they applied the PES (i.e., compared with articles that focused on general domains). Overall, authors placed far greater emphasis on Accuracy and Utility standards, compared with Propriety, Evaluation Accountability, or Feasibility. In many cases, authors used the PES in combination with other resources (e.g., checklists, guidelines, or other standards). Although program evaluation is crucial to public health practice, the mechanics of how professionals consider, integrate, or use evaluation standards is not fully understood. The research evaluates the Extracurricular Athletic Program for Class 28 of 2023 students at MAN Insan Scholar Serpong using the CIPP model, focusing on context, input, process, and product ...dimensions. The study finds compatibility between program goals and the institution's vision and mission. Legal basis and needs analysis align with program objectives. Input planning is thorough but requires optimization. Human resources and support from the institution are adequate, though facility quantity needs improvement. The process implementation, including training, competitions, and monitoring, meets standards. Overall, the Program contributes to students' physical abilities, attitudes, behavior, knowledge, skills, and academic achievements, demonstrating significant improvement compared to previous years.
Complexity-resulting from interactions among many component parts-is a property of both the intervention and the context (or system) into which it is placed. Complexity increases the unpredictability ...of effects. Complexity invites new approaches to logic modeling, definitions of integrity and means of standardization, and evaluation. New metaphors and terminology are needed to capture the recognition that knowledge generation comes from the hands of practitioners implementers as much as it comes from those usually playing the role of intervention researcher. Failure to acknowledge this may blind us to the very mechanisms we seek to understand. Researchers in clinical settings are documenting health improvement gains made as a consequence of complex systems thinking. Improvement science in clinical settings has much to offer researchers in population health.
