We construct a cut finite element method for the membrane elasticity problem on an embedded mesh using tangential differential calculus, i.e., with the equilibrium equations pointwise projected onto ...the tangent plane of the surface to create a pointwise planar problem in the tangential direction. Both free membranes and membranes coupled to 3D elasticity are considered. The discretization of the membrane comes from a Galerkin method using the restriction of 3D basis functions (linear or trilinear) to the surface representing the membrane. In the case of coupling to 3D elasticity, we view the membrane as giving additional stiffness contributions to the standard stiffness matrix resulting from the discretization of the three-dimensional continuum.
In this survey, we review the field of human shoulder functional kinematic representations. The central question of this review is to evaluate whether the current approaches in shoulder kinematics ...can meet the high-reliability computational challenge. This challenge is posed by applications such as robot-assisted rehabilitation. Currently, the role of kinematic representations in such applications has been mostly overlooked. Therefore, we have systematically searched and summarised the existing literature on shoulder kinematics. The shoulder is an important functional joint, and its large range of motion (ROM) poses several mathematical and practical challenges. Frequently, in kinematic analysis, the role of the shoulder articulation is approximated to a ball-and-socket joint. Following the high-reliability computational challenge, our review challenges this inappropriate use of reductionism. Therefore, we propose that this challenge could be met by kinematic representations, that are redundant, that use an active interpretation and that emphasise on functional understanding.

This chapter outlines the circumstances that led to the evolution of the profession of research management and administration in Japan. The state of research administration in Japan can be ...characterised by a combination of a top-down approach guided by the government and a bottom-up approach taken by the practitioners named University Research Administrator (URA), which have effectively been working in alignment since 2009. Currently, the RMAN-J (Research Manager and Administrator Network Japan), a national association of URA practitioners and stakeholders, actively promotes networking not only among the practitioners but also with important stakeholders including industries. As a recent achievement, a new skills certification program is being completed based on RMAN-J’s activities over the past 13 years.

On the basis of the current database backup mechanism research, according to requirements of various enterprises. In this paper the mechanisms which contain integrated and reasonable backup methods ...are presented and implemented. The mechanisms can decrease the risk of losing the meta-data related to enterprise application when database encounters unpredicted problems and also have very little influence on performance and available of oracle database when backup operations are proceeding.
