In the post-war years (50s-80s of the 20th century), the legislation of the Soviet Union defined that the list of monuments to be protected by the state is deemed a political document with ...ideological significance. Due to this reason, the list of architectural monuments was subject to politically motivated manipulations not only during Stalin's time, but also later.
The political situation after the occupation in 1940 required to adapt to the sovietization demands, didactically dividing cultural monuments into “progressive” and “bourgeois” or those unfit for socialist construction. The history of the cultural heritage protection measures has been related to politics. With the growing importance of cultural heritage in the formation of historical memory, the protection and promotion of monuments becomes an essential part of the ideology of nation states. A change in the state power means a change in the dominant political ideology, which affects the work of state institutions in the protection of cultural heritage.
The research topic has an interdisciplinary nature with the intertwining of political, economic and social aspects. The cultural heritage includes the political dimension and its role in shaping national identity models.
The rise of the Duchy of Courland in the first half of the 18th century made a serious contribution to the landscape of the Lielupe left bank basin in the Zemgale region. The landscape of the both historical ensembles of Svete and Vircava manors was disturbed (fragmented) by the economic and political position of the state. The basis for that was bringing new infrastructure in the nature.
As a result of political, economic and social pressures, the landscapes of cultural and historical manors have, over the centuries, fragmented and transformed the use of the original structure and functional landscape. The aim of the research is to identify and emphasize the causes and consequences of the fragmentation of the cultural and historical landscape of manors.
The architecture of summer residences in the Dubrovnik region from the 15th and 16th centuries represents elements of cultural and historical heritage that both enhance the landscape and bear witness ...to the rich legacy rooted in the native Mediterranean ambience. By learning about the specific spatial characteristics that define Dubrovnik’s summer residences, this research aimed to comprehend their urban and architectural essence and determine the possibilities of using the typology of these residences as a tool for planning the balanced development of both the private and societal aspects of the city. This study identified indicators of the spatial parameters of existing historic Dubrovnik summer residences in Gruž and then analyzed them according to types of spatial planning conditions to guide the construction and development of building plots. The research was conducted using a model representation of the spatial indicators of the summer residences. The analysis of the model data revealed the characteristics of the typology of Dubrovnik summer residences, highlighting the urban and architectural features of the plots, houses, and gardens, the use of technological innovations, and the coexistence of privacy and sociality. The recognized specificities led to the conclusion that the typology of Dubrovnik summer residences can serve as an exceptionally valuable spatial planning tool.
The goal of the research was to establish a complete overview of summer residences, villas and (family) houses in Zagreb, exclusively on the basis of listing criteria. 60 listed buildings were ...identified, all located in the northern part of Zagreb, on the southern slopes of Medvednica. The paper provides a review of listed building locations, authors, time of construction, historical stylistic classification, analysis of the pertaining listing documentation and literature review. Summer residences for an occasional stay were built during the 18th and 19th century in secluded hilly locations surrounded by vineyards and orchards. In the 20th century, the construction of summer residences decreased, while the construction of villas for permanent residence begins forming elite residential parts of the city. With a transition from a semi-rural to a semi-urban context, accompanied by the disappearance of the term summer residence and the introduction of the terms villa and (family) house, the stylistic transition from historicism to functionalism and modern architecture is evident. Three main historical-stylistic periods have been recognized and all the researched buildings have been classified accordingly.
After a number of longer European journeys, Count Karl von Zinzendorf, the councillor of commerce of the Vienna court, visited Moscow in 1774. He was accompanied by the Portuguese Duke Don Juan de ...Braganza. Between August 6 and 11, 1774, they stayed in German Quarter (Nemetskaya Sloboda), at the place of a wine merchant called Louis. In Moscow the travellers met the leading politicians of the Russian Empire: Prince Mikhail Volkonsky, Count Fedor Ostermann, and Count Petr Sheremetev. They witnessed the moment when Count Nikolay Repnin and Count Semen Vorontsov brought the signed peace treaty of Kuchuk-Kainarji directly from the battlefield. They visited the Moscow Orphanage and the bookstore of Rüdiger and Weber, saw a traditional wedding ceremony in a Greek Orthodox church, visited Kuskovo Estate, a summer residence of Count Sheremetev at that time, attended a Russian bathhouse, and made shopping in Kitay-Gorod.
In academic research, princely summer residences are regarded as places of longing, where rulers sought to realize their dream of an earthly paradise and escape the constraints of courtly ceremonial. ...Traditionally, this research has been based in history of art. What music was made in the summer residences, and how it might have differed from that of the main residence, has not yet been systematically studied. The conference made a contribution to this by examining the musical life at selected European summer residences of the eighteenth century and relating it to one another. The individual contributions present the respective situations of the cultivation of music at selected summer residences in the German-speaking countries as well as in Italy, Spain, England, Sweden and Russia.
Fürstliche Sommerresidenzen gelten in der Forschung als Sehnsuchtsorte, an denen die Herrscher ihren Traum vom irdischen Paradies zu verwirklichen und den Zwängen des höfischen Zeremoniells zu entfliehen suchten. Traditionell ist diese Forschung in den Kunstwissenschaften angesiedelt. Welche Musik in den Sommerresidenzen gemacht wurde, und wie sich diese möglicherweise von der der jeweiligen Hauptresidenz unterschied, ist bisher noch nicht systematisch untersucht worden. Hierzu hat die Tagung einen Beitrag geleistet, indem sie das Musikleben an ausgewählten europäischen Sommerresidenzen des 18. Jahrhunderts untersuchte und miteinander in Beziehung setzte. Die einzelnen Beiträge stellen die jeweiligen Situationen der Musikpflege an ausgewählten Sommerresidenzen im deutschsprachigen Raum sowie in Italien, Spanien, England, Schweden und Russland dar.
