The identification of distinctive and overlapping features of anxiety and depression remains an important scientific problem. Currently, the literature does not allow to determine stable similarities ...and differences in the use of cognitive emotion regulation strategies (CERS) in anxiety and depression, especially concerning the adaptive strategies. Consequently, the aim of this study was to identify the overlapping and distinctive patterns of CERS use in the recently proposed types of anxiety and depression in a general population. In this dimensional approach, types of anxiety and depression are considered as personality types and distinguished based on their specific structural composition and functional role (reactive or regulative) in stimulation processing. 1,632 participants from a representative sample completed the Anxiety and Depression Questionnaire (measuring the Arousal and Apprehension Types of anxiety and the Valence and Anhedonic Types of depression) and the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Regression analyses were conducted with the affective types as predictors. The co-occurrence of the types was accounted for in order to examine their independent relationships with the CERS. We found that reactive arousal anxiety was not related to any strategies, while regulative apprehension anxiety primarily predicted the use of rumination, which is presumably related to the type's cognitive structural components. The strategy specific to reactive valence depression was other-blame (as predicted by the high negative affect in its structure), and the regulative, most structurally complex anhedonic depression predicted the use of the largest number of strategies, including the adaptive ones. The relationships between the types of depression and self-blame and refocus on planning were moderated by sex but the effects were small. These findings fit into the current trend of exploring the shared and specific features of anxiety and depression, which might facilitate their differentiation by identifying CERS that are characteristic for the specific types. This information can be used for supporting diagnosis and targeting selected strategies in therapy both in clinical and non-clinical populations.
Recent advances in wood physiology, molecular phylogeny, and ultrastructure (chiefly scanning electron microscopy, SEM), as well as important new knowledge in traditional fields, provide the basis ...for a new vision of how wood evolves. Woody angiosperms have, in the main, shifted from conductive safety to conductive efficiency (with many variations and modifications) and from ability to resist cavitation (low vulnerability) to ability to refill vessels. The invention of the vessel was a kind of dimorphism (vessel elements plus tracheids) that permitted division of labor and many kinds of wood repatterning that suit conductive safety–efficiency trade-offs. Angiosperms were primarily adapted to mesic habitats but were not failures or “unstable.” They have survived to the present in such habitats well, along with older structural adaptations (e.g., the scalariform perforation plate) that are still suited to such habitats. These “primitive” features are evident in earlier branchings of phylogenetic trees based on multiple genes. Older features may still be functional and thus persist, although newer formulations are overriding in effect. There are, however, numerous instances of “breakouts” in a number of clades (ecological iterations and bursts of speciation and diversification related to new ways of dealing with water economy), whereas in other branchings, other clades show ecological stasis over long periods of time. Newer physiological and anatomical mechanisms have permitted entry into habitats with marked fluctuation in moisture availability. Wood evolves progressively, and literal character state reversal may be unusual: genomic and developmental information holds answers to these changes. Wood is a complex tissue, and each of the histological components shows polymorphism as an evolutionary mechanism. Cell types within wood evolve collaboratively. Shifts in wood features (e.g., simplification of the scalariform perforation plate) are commonly homoplastic. Manifold changes in habit and in leaf physiology, morphology, and anatomy accompany wood evolution, and wood should be studied with relationship to real-world ecology, information that cannot be gleaned from literature or other secondary sources. Heterochrony (protracted juvenilism, accelerated adulthood) characterizes angiosperm xylem extensively, far more so than in other vascular plants, and these mechanisms have resulted in many remarkable changes (e.g., monocots have permanently juvenile xylem, woody trees represent accelerated adulthood). Understanding the many successful features of angiosperm wood evolution must ultimately rest on syntheses.
Anammox-biofilm processes have great potential for wastewater nitrogen removal, as it overcomes the slow growth and easy loss of AnAOB (anaerobic ammonium oxidation bacteria). Biofilm carrier is the ...core part of the Anammox-biofilm reactor and plays a key role in the start-up and long-term operation of the process. Therefore, the research on the biofilm carrier of Anammox-based process was summarized and discussed in terms of configurations and types. In the Anammox-biofilm process, fixed bed biofilm reactor is a relatively mature biofilm carrier configuration and has advantages in terms of nitrogen removal and long-term operational stability, while moving bed biofilm reactor has advantages in terms of start-up time. Although the long-term operational stability of fluidized bed biofilm reactor is good, its nitrogen removal performance needs to be improved. Among the different biofilm carrier categories, the inorganic biofilm carrier has an advantage in start-up time, due to the enhancement of the growth and metabolic of AnAOB by inorganic materials (such as carbon and iron). Anammox-based reactors using organic biofilm carriers, especially suspension carriers, are well-established and more stable in long-term operation. Composite biofilm carriers combine the advantages of several materials, but their complex preparation procedures lead to high costs. In addition, possible research directions for accelerating the start-up and keeping the long-term stable operation of Anammox reactor by biofilm process were highlighted. It is hoped to provide a possible pathway for the rapid start-up of Anammox-based process, and references for the optimization and promotion of process.

In order to examine correspondence between different methods for circulation type classification, a dataset of classification catalogs for 12 different European regions has been created ...using a specially developed software package. Twenty‐seven basic automatic classification methods have been applied in several variants to different input datasets describing atmospheric circulation. Together with six manual classifications a total of 33 methods are available for inter‐comparison.
Pattern correlation, frequency time‐series correlation and the adjusted Rand index have been used for comparison. Highly significant correspondence has been detected only for two clustering techniques while the remaining classification methods show surprisingly low similarity. A Monte‐Carlo test with 1000 classifications of randomly defined types even shows that most of the methods are not more similar among each other than any arbitrarily chosen types.
The predominant dissimilarity between the methods is interpreted to be a result of a lack of inherent structures of the input data. Only simulated annealing clustering and self‐organizing maps get nearly identical results because they can optimally fit the partitioning to the outer shape of the data cloud in the phase space. Also methods based on pre‐defined types come to very different results because small changes in the definition of thresholds may lead to large differences in the partitioning.
It is concluded that because of the missing inner structure of the data there is no clear statistical reason to prefer any of the examined methods. For practice in synoptic climatology this means that finding a suited classification for a certain purpose may require a broad comparison of methods. Microplastics (<5 mm) are considered to be emerging pollutants of global concern. Investigations on microplastics pollution in coastal and marine environments have increased recently but knowledge ...gaps still exist regarding microplastics in coastal beach soils with high-intensity human activities. In the present study a total of 120 soil samples were taken from 53 sites along >3000 km of coastline in Shandong province, east China, adjacent to both the Bohai Sea and the Yellow Sea coastlines under different land use management. Microplastics were separated from the soil samples using a continuous flow and floating separation apparatus. The shape type, size, abundance, spatial distribution, polymer composition and surface morphology of the microplastics were identified by a range of advanced microscopic and micro-analytical methods. The analytical results show that seven shape types, namely foams, pellets, fragments, flakes, fibers, films and sponges, were present in the beach soils. The polymer composition of the microplastics included polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyether urethane and a polymer blend of both polyethylene and polypropylene. Approximately 60% of the observed microplastics had a size range < 1 mm. Microplastic abundance varied greatly among the soils, ranging from 1.3 to 14,712.5 N kg−1 (dry weight) as influenced by high-intensity human activities such as mariculture, tourism, and port construction. The seven shape types of microplastics from the coastal environment had different weathering surface morphologies, showing scratches, creases, micropores, cracks, either concave or convex, and of various shapes and sizes, possibly due to physical friction, photochemical oxidation and/or animal attack. Algae or crude oil was observed on the surface of some microplastics. The weathered surfaces of microplastics might act as a high-capacity carrier with adhering microorganisms and chemicals. Further studies are required on the weathering processes, sorption capacity and transport of microplastics especially in smaller size (<1 mm) under coastal conditions.

Researchers in entrepreneurial studies are increasingly interested in the psychological well-being of entrepreneurs. Approaches to well-being tend to be partitioned into hedonic and eudaimonic ...formulations. Most entrepreneurial studies have focused on hedonic indicators (life satisfaction, happiness, positive affect). The central objective of this essay is to examine the relevance of eudaimonic well-being for understanding entrepreneurial experience. The theoretical background and key dimensions of eudaimonic well-being are described and their relevance for entrepreneurial studies is considered. Illustrative findings from prior well-being studies are examined, also with emphasis on possible extensions to entrepreneurship. Five key venues for the entrepreneurial field are then considered: (1) entrepreneurship and autonomy, viewed both as a motive (self-determination theory) and as an aspect of well-being (eudaimonic well-being theory); (2) varieties of entrepreneurship (opportunity versus necessity) and eudaimonic well-being; (3) eudaimonia in the entrepreneurial journey (beginning, middle, end); (4) entrepreneurship, well-being and health; and (5) entrepreneurs and the eudaimonia of others – contrasting virtuous and vicious types. In each topic, extant findings from entrepreneurial studies are considered and new research directions proposed. The overall aim is to be generative regarding the interplay between entrepreneurial experience and eudaimonic well-being.
Although there is growing research on the psychological well-being of entrepreneurs, most studies to date have focused on hedonic conceptions of well-being. However, key aspects of eudaimonic well-being (e.g., realization of personal potential, purposeful life engagement, effective management of complex environments) have received little attention even though they may be particularly relevant to entrepreneurial pursuits. To address this issue, the theoretical foundation of a widely-used eudaimonic model is briefly described along with its empirical operationalization. Illustrative findings generated with this model are noted, and their relevance for entrepreneurial studies is considered. Shifting to extant entrepreneurial research, five topical venues are then presented, beginning with a call to better distinguish the meaning and measurement of autonomy (as a core motive from self-determination theory, and as an aspect of well-being from eudaimonic theory) in studies of entrepreneurial experience. The eudaimonic well-being of different types of entrepreneurs is then considered with a primary focus on the distinction between necessity versus opportunity entrepreneurs. These particular types invoke emphasis on sociodemographic factors (e.g., educational and occupational status, income, wealth) that are known from previous research to matter in accounting for differences in reported levels of well-being. The third venue considers how eudaimonic well-being may matter over the course of entrepreneurial experience, underscoring that certain aspects of well-being may account for who chooses an entrepreneurial path while other aspects may serve as protective resources (buffers) vis-à-vis the stresses attendant to managing a self-initiated business. Still other aspects of well-being may be nurtured by the longer-term journey of business venturing. The health of entrepreneurs is then considered as linked to experiences of well-being. New directions for objective health assessments (functional health, biomarkers, neuroscience, gene expression) are considered; all have previously been linked in population-based studies to eudaimonic well-being. Finally, the impact of entrepreneurs on the lives of others (co-workers, employees, families, communities, society) is considered via the contrast between benevolent (virtuous) versus malevolent (vicious) entrepreneurs. Promising empirical questions that follow from these observations are detailed.
From a lay perspective, the central importance of bringing eudaimonia to the field of entrepreneurial studies is that the essential core of this type of well-being involves realization of personal talents and potential. Such active pursuit of such personal excellence, in the spirit of Aristotle, is fundamental to entrepreneurship.

Günter Wagner, one of the preeminent researchers in the field, argues that homology, or character identity, can be explained through the historical continuity of character identity networks-that is, the gene regulatory networks that enable differential gene expression. He shows how character identity is independent of the form and function of the character itself because the same network can activate different effector genes and thus control the development of different shapes, sizes, and qualities of the character. Demonstrating how this theoretical model can provide a foundation for understanding the evolutionary origin of novel characters, Wagner applies it to the origin and evolution of specific systems, such as cell types; skin, hair, and feathers; limbs and digits; and flowers.

Communication is a central elements in software development. As a potential typed foundation for structured communication-centered programming, session types have been studied over the past decade ...for a wide range of process calculi and programming languages, focusing on binary (two-party) sessions. This work extends the foregoing theories of binary session types to multiparty, asynchronous sessions, which often arise in practical communication-centered applications. Presented as a typed calculus for mobile processes, the theory introduces a new notion of types in which interactions involving multiple peers are directly abstracted as a global scenario. Global types retain the friendly type syntax of binary session types while specifying dependencies and capturing complex causal chains of multiparty asynchronous interactions. A global type plays the role of a shared agreement among communication peers and is used as a basis of efficient type-checking through its projection onto individual peers. The fundamental properties of the session type discipline, such as communication safety, progress, and session fidelity, are established for general n-party asynchronous interactions.
