This paper is prepared based on the research on 18 couples of husbands and wives from a faculty at a state Islamic university in Yogyakarta. The research found that good communication between ...husbands and wives in household life could build family resilience and prevent divorce. This study used normative-sociology approach combined with the maṣlaḥah mursalah and convergence theories, which was further combined with the Ibnu Miskawaih and K. Hajar Dewantoro’s theories. The data was collected by distributing questionnaires to 18 couples of husbands and wives. The study found that a good communication between wives and husbands could be built through verbal and non-verbal communications. These verbal and non-verbal communications had the same strength in building a good communication, depending on the situations. There were times when it was more appropriate to use verbal communication, while there were also times when non-verbal communication was the right choice. It could, therefore, be said that communication played a crucial role in building family resilience. Thus, analyzed using the maṣlaḥah mursalah theory, it was not an exaggeration to state that building communication is a necessity for husbands and wives. It is not even exaggerating to say that building a good communication is an obligation that husbands and wives cannot ignore.
In this study, we examined online conversations on Twitter about the Russia-Ukraine War and investigated differences between bots and non-bots accounts. Using ‘Russia’ and ‘Ukraine’ as keywords, we ...employed a Twitter API to collect data from 17 February to 18 March on Twitter. We obtained a large dataset of over 3.7 million tweets generated by about one million distinct accounts. We then analyzed one percent of the data using interval sampling for bot detection and found that about 13.4 percent of the accounts were social media bots, responsible for about 16.7 percent of the tweets. We examined the difference between bots and non-bots regarding online conversations on the Russia-Ukraine War through account analysis, textual analysis, and interaction analysis. The results show that bots exist on both sides, bots from the Ukrainian side contributed a louder voice while bots on the Russian side demonstrated more effective communication. In addition, there were differences and similarities between bots and non-bots in the behavior of online conversations, but the difference seemed to be relatively weaker than those found in previous studies.
Even high functioning children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) exhibit impairments that affect their ability to carry out and maintain effective social interactions in multiple contexts. One ...aspect of subtle nonverbal communication that might play a role in this impairment is the whole-body motor coordination that naturally arises between people during conversation. The current study aimed to measure the time-dependent, coordinated whole-body movements between children with ASD and a clinician during a conversational exchange using tools of nonlinear dynamics. Given the influence that subtle interpersonal coordination has on social interaction feelings, we expected there to be important associations between the dynamic motor movement measures introduced in the current study and the measures used traditionally to categorize ASD impairment (ADOS-2, joint attention and theory of mind). The study found that children with ASD coordinated their bodily movements with a clinician, that these movements were complex and that the complexity of the children's movements matched that of the clinician's movements. Importantly, the degree of this bodily coordination was related to higher social cognitive ability. This suggests children with ASD are embodying some degree of social competence during conversations. This study demonstrates the importance of further investigating the subtle but important bodily movement coordination that occurs during social interaction in children with ASD.
A child's first words mark the emergence of a uniquely human ability. Theories of the developmental steps that pave the way for word production have proposed that either vocal or gestural precursors ...are key. These accounts were tested by assessing the developmental synchrony in the onset of babbling, pointing, and word production for 46 infants observed monthly between the ages of 9 and 18 months. Babbling and pointing did not develop in tight synchrony and babble onset alone predicted first words. Pointing and maternal education emerged as predictors of lexical knowledge only in relation to a measure taken at 18 months. This suggests a far more important role for early phonological development in the creation of the lexicon than previously thought.
When verbal and nonverbal communications (NVC) lack congruency, nonverbal cues are often relied upon to perceive meaning. This study measured participant reliance on verbal and NVC to understand ...speaker intention, and if participants' accuracy of perception varied with cue use. Commonly used gestural cues for sarcasm perception were determined using videos from the Relational Inference in Social Communication (RISC) database in two video conditions: With Audio (WA) and Without Audio (WoA). Data showed perception of speaker intention was more accurate in the WA condition for literal, humor, and white lie videos. Perception of speaker intention showed no significant change in perception accuracy across conditions with sarcasm videos. The eyes and mouth were referred to most when viewing all videos in the WoA condition, but not significantly more reliable. However, the results showed that relying on cue clusters may improve sarcasm perception and that verbal cues may not be needed at all.

Empathy plays a crucial role in fostering positive social interactions and is elicited through verbal and nonverbal socioemotional cues. Computer‐mediated communication (CMC) rapidly connects ...individuals at a distance but can partly filter out nonverbal cues. We draw from available telehealth and emotion communication literature to elaborate a cohesive conceptual framework of online empathy, a tool the field is currently lacking. The distinctive features of online communication and their impacts on the empathic interaction are described. We also detail strategies that users can employ to facilitate feeling, conveying, and being perceived as empathic in CMC.

En el siglo XXI, los cambios suscitados por la globalización y por las dinámicas sociales de la nueva normalidad post COVID-19, plantean problemas a la hora de definir las relaciones comunicacionales ...entre individuos. Desde esta óptica, los problemas de la comunicación envuelven diversas aristas, difíciles de afrontar. En la mayoría de los casos, se producen fallas comunicativas, debido a la compleja variedad de matices presentes en la comunicación, así como en la nula comprensión de sus conceptos y en la gran amplitud de expresiones culturales, que pueden concebirse como diversas, no encontrando espacio dentro de los escenarios cotidianos. En tal sentido, analizar los alcances de la comunicación, encarna un problema para la filosofía, en especial para la antropología filosófica, dado que valora la comunicación como un acto representativo de la identidad cultural, ya que responde a las formas de expresar, oral o gestualmente, la interioridad humana. Este universo cultural es amplio y no existen análisis suficientes para definir cómo influye la comunicación en los procesos de transmisión cultural. Bajo el método hermenéutico-documental, el artículo explora el proceso de comunicación, como medio para expresar la realidad ontológica y epistémica de los individuos, de espacio de encuentro, fuente que enriquece la cultura, la identidad y la interacción social. In the 21st century, the changes caused by globalization and by the social dynamics of the new post-COVID-19 normality pose problems when it comes to defining communication relationships between individuals. From this point of view, communication problems involve several edges, difficult to face. In most cases, communication failures occur, due to the complex variety of nuances present in communication, as well as the lack of understanding of its concepts and the great breadth of cultural expressions, which can be conceived as diverse, not find space in everyday scenarios. In this sense, analyzing the scope of communication embodies a problem for philosophy, especially for philosophical anthropology, since it values communication as a representative act of cultural identity, since it responds to the ways of expressing, orally or gesturally, the human interior. This cultural universe is wide and there are not enough analyzes to define how communication influences the processes of cultural transmission. Under the hermeneutic-documentary method, the article explores the communication process, as a means to express the ontological and epistemic reality of individuals, as a meeting space, a source that enriches culture, identity and social interaction. Conversation practice, while paramount for all language learners, can be difficult to get enough of and very expensive. In this mobile age, chatbots are an obvious means of filling this gap, but have ...yet to realize their potential as practice partners. The current study was undertaken to examine why chatbots are not yet a substantial instrument for language learning engagement/practice, and to provide direction for future practice and chatbot development. To this end, building on a recent experimental study examining chatbot novelty effects, students undertook a pair of conversation activities: human and human-chatbot (via speech-to-text software). Immediately following the practice conversations, students' interest in the two partners was surveyed and open-ended textual feedback was collected. With these data sources and prior standardised test results, regression and content analysis of the data was undertaken. Findings indicated: 1) prior interest in human conversation partners was the best single predictor of future interest in chatbot conversations; 2) prior language competency was more strongly linked to interest in chatbot than human conversations; 3) that the qualitative experience of having “learned more” with the chatbot was strongly connected to task interest, even when reporting communication difficulties. Implications for practicing languages with currently available chatbots, for chatbots and related educational technology as sources of student interest and directions for chatbots future development are discussed.
