Prispevek obravnava problematiko lokalnih vodnih virov na primeru Bele krajine - podeželske, kraške pokrajine v jugovzhodni Sloveniji. Na terenu smo inventarizirali 261 različnih vodnih virov, ...preučili njihovo nekdanjo in sedanjo rabo ter vlogo v življenju lokalnega prebivalstva in podali oceno njihove hidrogeološke občutljivosti ter hidroekološke ogroženosti. Z izgradnjo vodovoda so belokranjski vodni viri izgubili svoj tradicionalni vodooskrbni pomen, navezanost lokalnega prebivalstva nanje in vedenje o njih pa tone v pozabo. Kljub temu posamezne lokalne skupnosti v zadnjem času prepoznavajo njihovo naravno, kulturno in ekosistemsko vrednost, kar se zrcali v pobudah za ohranjanje, zaščito in obnovo posameznih vodnih virov. Večina belokranjskih vodnih virov je zaradi kraškega površja sicer zelo občutljivih za onesnaževanje, vendar pa je njihova dejanska hidroekološka ogroženost, ki izhaja iz človekovih dejavnosti v zaledju, razmeroma majhna.
The book comprises 14 chapters covering all the issues related to water desalination. These chapters emphasize the relationship between problems encountered with the use of feed water, the processes ...developed to address them, the operation of the required plants and solutions actually implemented. The book is the result of joint work and many years of mutual cooperation between researchers from Slovenia and Croatia. It was made as part of the transboundary project ŽIVO! Življenje – voda! (Life ...– Water!) (IPA CBC SI-HR 2007-2013), which involved the participation of authors from project partner institutions as well as invited authors who are familiar with the characteristics of the karst area of Northern Istria and the conditions there relating to drinking water supply. The monograph presents the natural features of Northern Istria, the karst and karst phenomena, karst hydrogeology, ecology and microbiology, and highlights in particular the vulnerability of the karst to various human activities. The main focus of attention is on karst water sources. In assessing their characteristics we used available knowledge of karst water on both sides of the border and supplemented it with new research on the transboundary area in question, which was based on field measurements and sampling, and chemical, microbiological and biological analysis of water. The collected findings form the basis for planning more effective monitoring of the quality of karst water sources, their protection and consequently the improvement of their quality.First editon was published in 2015, this corrected second edition is available also in paperback (ISBN 978-961-05-0001-8).
The article examines issues of local water resources using Bela Krajina as an example - a rural, karst landscape in south-eastern Slovenia. In the field, we made an inventory of 261 different water ...resources, analysing their past and current use along with their role in the life of the local population and assessing their hydrogeological sensitivity and hydroecological threat they face. With the introduction of distributed water systems, water resources lost their traditional importance in terms of water supply, with local population’s reliance on and knowledge about them fading. Nevertheless, certain local communities have recently recognized their natural and cultural value, as well as their importance to ecosystems, which is reflected in initiatives for the preservation, protection and restoration of individual water resources. Most of Bela Krajina’s water resources are very sensitive to pollution due to the karst surface, however the actual hydroecological threat they face from human activities in their catchments is relatively low.

Številni kraški izviri predstavljajo pomembne lokalne vire pitne vode, ki pokrivajo skoraj polovico državnih potreb. Prispevek obravnava način vodooskrbe v preteklosti ter današnje stanje, težave in ...izzive, s katerimi se soočamo. Kakovost kraških vodnih virov je zadovoljiva, predstavljene raziskave pa prikazujejo, da je stopnja zaščite njihovih prispevnih območij neprimerna. Dodatno so zaradi nesmotrne porabe vode ogrožene razpoložljive količine vodnih zalog. Za ohranjanje našega največjega rezervoarja kakovostne pitne vode morajo načrti za lokalno vodooskrbo temeljiti na ustreznih strokovnih raziskavah, kot jih predstavlja pričujoči članek.
This article tackles the problem of regionalisation of Slovenia from the integrated perspective of water management. When propositions to divide Slovenia into several regions (provinces) (with ...proposals to make between 3 and 14 regions) were made, very different and numerous parameters have been taken into account. The article examines the regionalisation problem from the integrated water management perspective that was introduced into the Slovenian water legislation by the European Water Directive, adopted in 2000. The article also summarises the main directions of integrated water management, contained in Water Act that was adopted in 2002 and is still in force. On the basis of integrated water management foundations in European legislation, the article uses the division of Slovenia into water districts as a professional basis for a comparison between different proposals for division of Slovenia into regions. Although it is true that a hydrographical division of Slovenia into water districts cannot be the most important basis for regionalisation, one may notice that a division of Slovenia into three regions (Western Slovenia (Koper), Central Slovenia (Ljubljana), Eastern Slovenia (Maribor)) and partially division into six regions would be fully in line with bases for integrated and (by definition) territorial water management. A good knowledge of the natural and cultural heritage of karst is a precondition for the rational planning of life on it. We try to organize the knowledge to make it as useful as possible for ...planners. We are involved in individual projects related to the regional planning, water supply systems, the construction of transportation infrastructure, the closure of landfills in karst areas, the collection of data on karst caves and their protection, karst ecology and determining the extent of human influence on the karst underground. A new book series Karstology and development challenges on karst was designed to present the results of completed and new projects to a broader public.The first book with the subtitle Water contains selected directly applicable research studies on karst waters, their characteristics, endangerment, and protection. It is composed of ten chapters, which can be grouped into three main themes. In the introduction the importance, characteristics and vulnerability of karst aquifers are presented,then various case studies of pollution and endangerment are described (traffic, landfills, military objects, flooding), and at the end some guidelines for the protection of karst water sources are summarized. The book is a bilingual publication in Slovene and English. It is aimed at a broad circle of users, researchers, students and planners.
The second book in the new collection Karstology in Development Challenges in the Karst brings together the findings obtained in planning and construction of motorways in the Karst. More than 350 new ...caves were opened up in the final wave of construction. This was followed by studies on arranging karstic features for tourism and their management. We also selected studies on karstic ecology, in which we made use of biological and microbiological research. At the end there is a summary of everything we need to take into account in planning different encroachments in karstic areas.
