The Ethiopian government has a package of encouraging youths to participate in small and micro agricultural enterprises by giving legal certificate for youths who were organized in-group to start the ...business by providing financial supports in terms of credit. However, youths are less willing to participate in agricultural enterprises. Even after being organized into groups and having supports from government, some of them were not starting the business and some were interrupting the business they have been organized. Due to these, huge amount of money from the government, which was allocated for this purpose, is not being used as expected. Therefore, this study was intended to assess factors affecting rural and peri-urban youth participation in agricultural enterprises in Bena-Tsemay and Debubi Ari woreda of south omo zone. Two-stage sampling technique was used to select 155 sample households. Logit model was used to analyze determinants of youth's participation in agricultural enterprises. The result of this study indicated that 32.3% respondents were participated and 67.7% were not participated in enterprises. Econometric results revealed that variables such as farm size, institutional capacity building, and weather road significantly affected youths’ participation in agricultural enterprises at 1% and 5% significance level. The study recommends that the provision of land for the agricultural enterprises should consider the size/type of the enterprises that youth are willingness to participate. The government should specify the institution/sector to enterprise type and consideration of all-weather roads for each enterprise type during organizing youth in different agricultural enterprises is important.

Interest and participation in organized sports for children, preadolescents, and adolescents continue to grow. Because of increased participation, and younger entry age, in organized sports, ...appropriate practice, game schedules, and content become more important, taking into account athlete developmental stage and skills. Parental support for organized sports in general, with focus on development and fun instead of winning, has emerged as a key factor in the athlete's enjoyment of sports. Schools and community sports organizations who support multiple levels of sport (eg, recreational, competitive, elite) can include more youth who want to play sports and combat sport dropout. This report reviews the benefits and risks of organized sports as well as the roles of schools, community organizations, parents, and coaches in organized sports. It is designed to complement the American Academy of Pediatrics clinical reports "Physical Activity Assessment and Counseling in Pediatric Clinical Settings" and "Sports Specialization and Intensive Training in Young Athletes" by reviewing relevant literature on healthy organized sports for youth and providing guidance on organized sport readiness and entry. The report also provides guidance for pediatricians on counseling parents and advocating for healthy organized sports participation.
Youth engagement has been declared a priority by European Union and United Nations policy-makers, and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) faces demands to the same end. At the IGF 2021, youth called ...for more youth participation, more representation at the IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), and for acknowledgement of youth as a separate stakeholder category. In order to better understand why and how youth participate - and want to participate - in Internet governance, there is a need for a critical reflection on their presence, the spaces and activities they engage in. Therefore this paper looks at the complexity of the youth identity and at youth meta-participation: a process in which young people and facilitators create participatory spaces for youth to reach their political agency and where they do not only seek to engage in existing participation spaces but also to reshape them. The main research question is how youth want to change their participation at the IGF, specifically, which activities and mechanisms are being created to improve the ways in which they can exercise their agency. Actors meta-participate when the existing participation opportunities are not sufficiently reflecting their needs. Thus, a clearer understanding of current and demanded participation mechanisms may lead us to a broader set of questions concerning the effectiveness of the current multistakeholder model. This paper, based on interviews with stakeholders and desk research, argues that youth do not always accept the status quo if it does not represent their needs or does not allow for them to explore their ideas, and they will sometimes utilise processes to build the space they need or create activities in a bottom-up manner, that allow them to change the mode of their participation.
•This paper looked at how youth understand the youth stakeholder group beyond an age definition.•We conceptualise the attempts of youth to reshape their participation in the IGF as meta-participation, or participation with the aim to change existing participation frameworks.•The IGF allows for meta-participation, where youth can create additional spaces in which they are able to address their concerns or represent issues they are concerned with.•We can see that youth are taking steps to use existing processes but are not deterred when these processes do not meet their needs or expectations.
Insights from developmental neuroscience are not always translated to actionable policy decisions. In this review, we explore the potential of bridging the gap between developmental neuroscience and ...policy through youth participatory research approaches. As the current generation of adolescents lives in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing society, their lived experiences are crucial for both research and policy. Moreover, their active involvement holds significant promise, given their heightened creativity and need to contribute. We therefore advocate for a transdisciplinary framework that fosters collaboration between developmental scientists, adolescents, and policy makers in addressing complex societal challenges. We highlight the added value of adolescents' lived experiences in relation to two pressing societal issues affecting adolescents’ mental health: performance pressure and social inequality. By integrating firsthand lived experiences with insights from developmental neuroscience, we provide a foundation for progress in informed policy decisions.
•Actively involving adolescents in research could help informing policy.•Participatory research suits adolescents because of their need to contribute.•Marginalized communities could be reached through participatory research.•Policy could be informed through an iterative transdisciplinary research cycle.

Youth participation strengthens personal and social development, provides expertise for children and youth programs and services, and promotes a more democratic society, but questions arise about its ...most fundamental phenomena. Lacking agreement on its basic content, however, youth participation as a field of practice and subject of study will be limited. This paper examines what we know about youth participation, general propositions which are substantiated by research or practice, and unanswered questions or unresolved issues which remain for future work. It draws upon various academic disciplines and professional fields, in order to contribute to knowledge development and advance the field.

Commonly, researchers have looked for civic life in a distinct sector in which they assume that voluntary associations will cultivate special skills and virtues. Gathering together many challenges to ...this approach, and using ethnographic cases of housing advocacy and youth civic engagement projects, the authors reconceptualize 'the civic' as civic action and show how patterned scene styles shape it. Doing so reveals patterns of action in complex organizations that may span institutional sectors. The authors show how researchers can locate scene styles, and with an extensive literature review, they portray several common styles and suggest that different civic styles often lead to different outcomes. Approaches explaining the dynamics of informal youth participation during crisis typically examine youngsters’ political activity in light of the general understanding of political participation. In ...this article, I argue that such an approach falls short of understanding the motivations behind youth engagement during a crisis. Therefore, this qualitative study aims to investigate the motivations that triggered youth engagement in COVID-19–related protests and how they developed in response to government actions. It does so through 20 semi-structured interviews conducted across Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first six months of 2021 with 20 youth who had either no previous political participation experience or only voting engagement. The primary focus is on examining the motivations for two informal political activities—expression of opinion and protest. The findings reveal that the action-reaction patterns were not independent occurrences but evolved through three different stages each of which depended on distinctive motivations.
The Parliament of Jamaica marked Commonwealth Day 2023 and the Commonwealth Year of Youth with the youth forum which was opened by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Marisa ...Dalrymple-Philibert, MP. Youth participants from local schools heard from organizations who presented on various issues concerning youth engagement including health and wellness; safety and security; financial knowledge; career development; and youth expression. The forum was also supported by the South African, UK and Nigerian High Commissions in Jamaica and featured exhibitions from public and private sector entities.
The Fridays for Future (FFF) movement is a major climate movement on a global scale, calling for systemic change and demanding politicians act on their responsibilities. In this paper, we present and ...analyze original findings from a case study on the FFF movement in Finland, at a watershed moment for young climate activism. We explore the representations of young people’s environmental citizenship within the framings of the FFF movement, using an environ-mental citizenship framework analysis of the Finnish news media and Twitter discussions. We identified three frames within the media debate on the school strikes: the sustainable lifestyle frame, which focuses on the individual aspects of environmental citizenship, the active youth frame, which focuses on justifications of youth participation in politics, and the school attendance frame, which is concerned about the young people’s strike action. Our results explore the many aspects of environmental citizenship that young people express in the FFF movement. We reflect on the dominance of adult voices in the framing of this historic movement of young people for action on climate change. Our analysis contributes to a step change in the study of this important global movement, which is shaping the emergence of young people as active citizens in Finland and around the world. We argue that the FFF movement is shaping young people’s perceptions of active citizenship, and we advocate a youth-centred focus on the collective action and justice demands of young people.
