The Python applications using the least-square solver for a non-negative solution and Tikhonov regularization were applied for finding the distribution function of relaxation (DRT) times. The ...impedance data which represent the process of charge carrier relaxation in the bulk of 10 mol%Y2O3–90 mol%ZrO2 and 15 mol%CaO– 85 mol%ZrO2 single crystals herewith the minor influence of the interfacial polarization was separated from experimental data sets and distribution function of relaxation times (eDRT) were found. The obtained eDRT was used to fit parameters of skewed normal, Weibull, and Johnson SU continuous probability density functions (PDFs). The experimental datasets were also used to fit parameters of two equivalent circuits, which allowed to derive the distribution function of relaxation times (cDRT) from noiseless data. Noteworthy that obtained cDRT showed a significant difference from eDRT. The spectra of various electrical properties were reconstructed from both kinds of DRTs as well as from PDFs and were compared. The Johnson SU function stood out by describing the electrical response of charge carrier relaxation very well. It reproduced not only the impedance spectra but also all peculiarities of spectra of various electrical parameters: the dependence of AC conductivity close to the power-law, a linear relationship between the real and the imaginary parts of electric modulus in the high-frequency range, and the bend of dielectric permittivity in the middle frequencies.

The 2006 United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) is the first human rights treaty to explicitly acknowledge the right to education for persons with ...disabilities. In order to realize this right, the convention’s Article 24 mandates state parties to ensure inclusive education systems that overcome outright exclusion as well as segregation in special education settings. Despite this major global policy change to tackle the discriminations persons with disabilities face in education, this has yet to take effect in most school systems worldwide. Focusing on the factors undermining the realization of disability rights in education, Julia Biermann probes current meanings of inclusive education in two contrasting yet equally challenged state parties to the UN CRPD: Nigeria, whose school system overtly excludes disabled children, and Germany, where this group primarily learns in special schools. In both countries, policy actors aim to realize the right to inclusive education by segregating students with disabilities into special education settings. In Nigeria, this demand arises from the glaring lack of such a system. In Germany, conversely, from its extraordinary long-term institutionalization. This act of diverting from the principles embodied in Article 24 is based on the steadfast and shared belief that school systems, which place students into special education, have an innate advantage in realizing the right to education for persons with disabilities. Accordingly, inclusion emerges to be an evolutionary and linear process of educational expansion that depends on institutionalized special education, not a right of persons with disabilities to be realized in local schools on an equal basis with others. This book proposes a refined human rights model of disability in education that shifts the analytical focus toward the global politics of formal mass schooling as a space where discrimination is sustained.
Half a century after the Holocaust, on European soil, Bosnian Serbs orchestrated a system of concentration camps where they subjected their Bosniak Muslim and Bosnian Croat neighbors to torture, ...abuse, and killing. Foreign journalists exposed the horrors of the camps in the summer of 1992, sparking worldwide outrage. This exposure, however, did not stop the mass atrocities. Hikmet Karčić shows that the use of camps and detention facilities has been a ubiquitous practice in countless wars and genocides in order to achieve the wartime objectives of perpetrators. Although camps have been used for different strategic purposes, their essential functions are always the same: to inflict torture and lasting trauma on the victims. Torture, Humiliate, Kill develops the author’s collective traumatization theory, which contends that the concentration camps set up by the Bosnian Serb authorities had the primary purpose of inflicting collective trauma on the non-Serb population of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This collective traumatization consisted of excessive use of torture, sexual abuse, humiliation, and killing. The physical and psychological suffering imposed by these methods were seen as a quick and efficient means to establish the Serb “living space.” Karčić argues that this trauma was deliberately intended to deter non-Serbs from ever returning to their pre-war homes. The book centers on multiple examples of experiences at concentration camps in four towns operated by Bosnian Serbs during the war: Prijedor, Bijeljina, Višegrad, and Bileća. Chosen according to their political and geographical position, Karčić demonstrates that these camps were used as tools for the ethno-religious genocidal campaign against non-Serbs. Torture, Humiliate, Kill is a thorough and definitive resource for understanding the function and operation of camps during the Bosnian genocide.
The Caucasus region of Eurasia, wedged in between the Black and Caspian Seas, encompasses the modern territories of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, as well as the troubled republic of Chechnya in ...southern Russia. A site of invasion, conquest, and resistance since the onset of historical record, it has earned a reputation for fearsome violence and isolated mountain redoubts closed to outsiders. Over extended efforts to control the Caucasus area, Russians have long mythologized stories of their countrymen taken captive by bands of mountain brigands.
InThe Captive and the Gift, the anthropologist Bruce Grant explores the long relationship between Russia and the Caucasus and the means by which sovereignty has been exercised in this contested area. Taking his lead from Aleksandr Pushkin's 1822 poem "Prisoner of the Caucasus," Grant explores the extraordinary resonances of the themes of violence, captivity, and empire in the Caucasus through mythology, poetry, short stories, ballet, opera, and film. Grant argues that while the recurring Russian captivity narrative reflected a wide range of political positions, it most often and compellingly suggested a vision of Caucasus peoples as thankless, lawless subjects of empire who were unwilling to acknowledge and accept the gifts of civilization and protection extended by Russian leaders.
Drawing on years of field and archival research, Grant moves beyond myth and mass culture to suggest how real-life Caucasus practices of exchange, by contrast, aimed to control and diminish rather than unleash and increase violence. The result is a historical anthropology of sovereign forms that underscores how enduring popular narratives and close readings of ritual practices can shed light on the management of pluralism in long-fraught world areas.
Nell’italiano contemporaneo, sia la forma della terza persona plurale del congiuntivo imperfetto sia quella del condizionale presente hanno desinenza in -ero. Ma fra la fine del Duecento e il ...Cinquecento questa regola non si era ancora stabilizzata, e coesistevano numerose varianti: la desinenza -ono (sarebbono, fossono), -eno (sarebbeno, fosseno), -oro (sarebboro, fossoro), ecc. Nel Cinquecento, questa oscillazione morfologica esercita una chiara influenza sugli scritti grammaticali: le forme della terza persona plurale del congiuntivo imperfetto e del condizionale presente teorizzate dagli scritti grammaticali cinquecenteschi sono infatti differenti da quelle contemporanee. Ad esempio Pietro Bembo (1470-1547), nelle sue Prose della volgar lingua (1525), propone come forma generale del modo condizionale la forma in -ono. Lo stesso Bembo, tuttavia, così come altri grammatici del Cinquecento, registra numerose varianti desinenziali del modo oggi denominato condizionale. Tenendo conto del fatto che il condizionale non esisteva in latino come modo morfologicamente distinto, e che quindi, a differenza di altri modi della lingua italiana, non ereditava dalle trattazioni antiche una forma o un modo d’uso predefinito, era inevitabile che nel Cinquecento, età della codificazione grammaticale, questa forma abbia rivestito un ruolo importante nella discussione grammaticale, dando adito a diverse interpretazioni. In questo articolo si intende analizzare la posizione tenuta su questa questione dai grammatici del Cinquecento, esaminando l’uso delle desinenze di condizionale e congiuntivo nelle principali opere letterarie scritte nel periodo compreso fra il XIII e il XVI secolo. Riguardo alle opere grammaticali cinquecentesche, si concentrerà l’attenzione in particolare su quattro nomi di particolare rilievo, ovvero Pietro Bembo, Giovan Francesco Fortunio (c. 1470-1517), Gian Giorgio Trissino (1478-1550) e Pierfrancesco Giambullari (1495-1555), che nell’ambito dei dibattiti cinquecenteschi sulla lingua si collocano in posizioni radicalmente diverse l’uno dall’altro. Le teorie di Bembo e Fortunio possono essere ascritte alla teoria classicista, che individuava il modello della lingua italiana nel fiorentino letterario del Trecento, e in particolar modo in Petrarca e Boccaccio, benché le teorie bembiane mostrino più rigore di quelle di Fortunio. La posizione di Trissino, conosciuta come teoria della lingua cortigiana o italiana, negava invece la superiorità del fiorentino e, rimarcando quanto in realtà una lingua illustre come quella elaborata da Dante e Petrarca fosse composta di voci provenienti da ogni parte d’Italia, non limitava le scelte lessicali e grammaticali della lingua letteraria moderna a specifiche regioni italiane. Anche per questa ragione, nella sua Grammatichetta (1529), Trissino, a differenza di altri teorici contemporanei, non fonda la propria teoria sull’autorità di scrittori illustri. Giambullari infine, nelle Regole della lingua fiorentina pubblicate nel 1552, propone come norma la lingua parlata a Firenze, pur usando nelle sue Regole abbondanti esempi tratti dalle Tre Corone. Le desinenze che esaminiamo sono descritte così: Per quanto riguarda il condizionale presente, tutti gli autori scelgono la desinenza -ono. Bembo non fa riferimento alla desinenza moderna -ero, che invece tutti gli altri grammatici indicano come desinenza del condizionale. In Bembo e Fortunio si discutono anche le forme -iano o -ieno, e a questo riguardo il primo traccia una netta distinzione tra le desinenze verbali che occorrono rispettivamente in poesia e in prosa. Per quanto riguarda invece il congiuntivo imperfetto, accanto a -ono, -eno, -ino, la prevalenza della desinenza -ero sembrerebbe suggerire che le desinenze -ono e -ero rappresentassero le forme principali per ambedue i modi. Quello che rende unica la figura di Benedetto Croce all'interno del panorama della filosofia europea del Novecento e it fatto che egli, oltre ad essere un grande teorico, ideatore del monumentale ...sistema della "filosofia dello spirito", fu anche un acuto critico letterario di considerevole produttivita. Nel 1902, con il successo dell'Estetica come scienza dell'espressione e linguistica generale, Croce riusci a far circolare il proprio nome nell'ambiente degli intellettuali italiani e stranieri. Inoltre, volendo rendere la sua teoria pin accessibile ai lettori comuni e dimostrarne la validita a livello pratico, dal 1903 inizio a scrivere una serie di saggi critici sulla letteratura contemporanea italiana e a pubblicarli sulla sua rivista ≪Critica≫. Scopo della rivista, in base a quanto Croce stesso aveva annunciato nell'introduzione del 1903, era "di preparare il materiale e tentare un primo schema della storia della produzione letteraria e scientifica italiana dell'ultimo mezzo secolo". Affidata la sezione "scientifica" (cioe sulla filosofia) al suo amico filosofo Giovanni Gentile, Croce intraprese la scrittura di quella serie di saggi sulla letteratura dal titolo Note sulla letteratura italiana nella seconda meta del secolo XIX. Il primo articolo della serie era quello su Carducci: Croce non poteva "non cominciare dal piu cospicuo rappresentante della moderna letteratura italiana, dal primo in ordine di valore e di tempo". Dopo aver preso in esame diversi scrittori postcarducciani quali Fogazzaro, Verga, Serao, D'Annunzio, ecc., Croce tomo a studiare nuovamente l'opera carducciana trattandone in un ampio saggio nel 1909, pubblicato poi nel 1910 sempre all'interno della stessa serie. E probabile tuttavia che non si tratti di un semplice ritorno, visto che Croce aveva iniziato questa serie "per tentare un primo schema della storia della produzione italiana" e che Carducci era collocato all'inizio di questa storia. Dopo il 1910, infatti, Croce pubblico alcuni articoli su scrittori precarducciani, tra cui Prati, Tommaseo, Guerrazzi e Aleardi. Il saggio del 1903, del recto, viene escluso dalla Letteratura della nuova Italia (1914-1915), volumi che raccolgono i saggi della suddetta serie. E possibile, allora, ipotizzare che Croce intorno al 1909 abbia percepito un forte bisogno di tornare nuovamente a Carducci. Il fatto degno di nota, da questo punto di vista, e che in seguito alla morte di Carducci, avvenuta nel 1907, Croce ricevette varie proposte di scriverne una rassegna critica. Ne accetto una con un articolo di poche pagine in cui non aggiungeva quasi niente a quanto aveva scritto nel 1903, ma ne rifiuto un'altra dicendo che "per parlare degnamente del Carducci, e dire cose nuove", avrebbe dovuto consacrarsi "per un buon mese ad uno studio rinnovato" delle opere del Poeta. Da quel giorno, fino alla stesura del nuovo saggio su Carducci, in realta, passo ben piu di un anno. In questo lasso di tempo apparvero quelle tre opere di Croce che per gli studiosi rappresentano uno dei punti di svolta della sua estetica: il saggio L'intuizione pura e it carattere lirico dell'arte, La filosofia della pratica e la terza edizione dell'Estetica come scienza dell'espressione e linguistica generale. In questo lavoro, si intende mostrare come il saggio su Carducci del 1909 presenti non solo modifiche contingenti rispetto a quello del 1903, ma anche (o soprattutto) il primo tentativo dell'applicazione della nuova teoria di Croce. Si puo inoltre affermare che sull'elaborazione e formazione di questa stessa teoria, la figura del Carducci poeta esercito un'influenza non trascurabile. This book addresses an issue currently making political headlines in the United States—immigration. Immigrants have long engendered debates about the boundaries of belonging, with some singing their ...praises and others warning of their dangers. In particular, the 11 million unauthorized immigrants in the country provoke heated disagreements with issues of legality and morality at the forefront. Increasingly, such debates take place online, by organizations in the immigrant rights and the immigration control movements, who engage in symbolic work that includes blurring, crossing, maintaining, solidifying, and shifting the boundaries of belonging. Based on data collected from 29 national-level groups, this book features a cultural sociological analysis of the online materials deployed by social movement organizations debating immigration in the United States.
