  • Bulgarian past future in Slovene translations
    Grošelj, Robert, 1978-
This article identifies and analyses translation equivalents of the Bulgarian past future in Slovene translations of three Bulgarian novels. Following the extraction and analysis of Bulgarian past ... future forms, both functionally and quantitatively, their Slovene translation equivalents were extracted and also analysed functionally and quantitatively. In the novels analysed, the Bulgarian past future is used most frequently to signal the future in the past, followed by impossibility, possibility, and guessing; the texts analysed do not include the past future of annulment. The dominant Slovene translation equivalents of the Bulgarian past future are the future (in the case of the future in the past) and the present conditional (in the case of impossibility, possibility, and guessing); their functions are comparable to those of Bulgarian past future. In most cases, the translations analysed preserve the temporal perspective and the modality expressed by the Bulgarian past future, sometimes with the help of other lexical means.
