Cross-correlation measuring procedure for flow measurement in a district heating system is proposed in this paper. The procedure is based on temperature measurements and uses water-temperature ... fluctuations. It can be used to determine the supply-water velocities in a hot-water pipeline between two thermal stations at the same network level. The procedure is tested in a district-heating system in the Šaleška Valley in Slovenia. There the measurements on two characteristic sections are described in detail. In one case, supply-temperature fluctuations are present during the normal hot-water pipeline's operation and in the other they are manually induced. The results of the measurements on the 15 main sections in the Šaleška Valley distribution network are also reported and compared. The measured water velocity is one of the key operational parameters of a district heating system and therefore it has a large influence on the efficiency of the network's operation. The aim of this paper is to present the possibility of cross-correlation water-velocity measurements in district-heating systems and present some guidelines for their practical implementation and usability.
