The paper deals with the alliance of south-east European hornbeam associations of the Erythronio-Carpinion, that are divided into three suballiances. Suballiance Asparago tenuifolii-Carpinenion ...betuli comprises extrazonal Illyric hornbeam forests from the Submediterranean area. The other alliances appear in the Illyric floral provinze, viz. the alliance Erythronio-Carpinenion betuli, which includes hornbeam woods of the Praealpine and Predinaric phytogeographic region and the suballiance Lonicero caprifoliae-Carpinenion betuli which is those of the Subpannonic phytogeographic region.
