  • Seismic aspects of concrete gravity dam stability
    Zadnik, Branko
Stability of concrete dams, subject to strong ground motions, is an important problem for both new and existing dams. This problem was studied by investigating the contact between the dam body and ... the foundation floor. Based upon the theoretical and experimental research work, an analytical method has been developed to calculate and to assess the permanent displacements of the dam body relative to the foundation floor. In this method the coefficient of friction plays an important role and is a very sensitive variable. A newly defined "time dependent" coefficient of friction was introduced to describe the shearing resistance of the contact area.
