Use of PMC and PC in repair of some concrete structures in Slovenia

Polymers imparts very useful and beneficial properties to hardened concrete or mortar. Polymer modified concrete (PMC) and polymer concretes have a big range of use in concrete construction. One of ...the major use of PMC and PC is repair of concrete structures. PMC and PC are nowadays intensively used in general repair and maintenance of aged and damaged structures. Reconstruction of structural parts damaged and weakened by environmental, seismic and fire damage is hard to imagine without polymers. The most common applications of PMC and PC in repair works are reviewed in the paper. Some case histories in Slovenia are given and repair of cooling towers in the Šoštanj steam power plant, where PMC and PC were used for the repair and protection of over 130.000 sq.m. of concrete surfaces, is described in greater detail.
