The relationship between periodontal tissues and the gingival margin of a prosthetic restoration is determined by various biological and technical factors. The clinician must be aware of the effect ...that any prosthetic procedure may have on the health of the periodontium. Two major factors that influence the long-term success of a restoration are the location of its gingival margins and marginal fit. The indiscriminate placement of restorationmargins into the gingival crevice for aesthetic reasons or protection against decay can no longer be considered good practice.
