Two complementary approaches to telecommunication network performance modeling are discussed in the paper: analytic and simulation techniques. The analytic approach requires a high degree of ...abstraction and considerable effort to develop the performance model which accurately reflects the network under study and is simple enough to be solved quickly. Less abstraction, but significantly more computer time required in the application of the simulation model.
