  • Lahko ameriška strategija za Afganistan doseže operativne cilje?
    Fugina, Matej
Last December U.S. President Barack Obama presented a new American Strategy for Afghanistan. The strategy defines American national interests in the region and tries to legitimate the war in ... Afghanistan, but fails to add a comprehensive approach to it. Strategic goals of the Strategy are to destroy aterrorist organization Al-Qaeda, break the Taliban momentum and secure major population centers until the Afghan National Security Forces are able to take responsibility for their own national security. Operational goals of the Strategy include the continuation of the Counter-Insurgency and Counter-Terrorism doctrine but fail to identify the key regional actors or belligerent countries in the conflict. In order to reach these goals, President Obama announced a surge of 30.000 American troops to Afghanistan andthe beginning of American withdrawal from Afghanistan in the middle of 2011. The main speculation at the moment is whether the surge in force is really necessary for the attainment of operational goals; however, due to several complex factors it is almost impossible to draw any real conclusions.
