An investigation of sound waves in gas metal arc welding

During the gas metal arc welding in short circuit metal transfer mode, audio sound was detected and analysed. In this article, we describe basic characteristics of metal transfer during gas metal arc ...welding, experimental set-up and discuss the characteristic features of detected signals. It was found out that strong acoustical waves are produced for each short circuit in the moment when molten drop is detached from the welding wire. Analysing sound one can easily determine when irregularities in the welding process occurred.
