  • Reduction of lead time of operation
Starbek, Marko, strojnik, 1943-2023 ; Berlec, Tomaž
In the global market the customer selects the supplier which can provide short and reliable delivery dates. Delivery dates depend to a great extent on the duration of lead times of operations, ... therefore the basic requirement of customers can be fulfilled only by gradual transition from workshop production type to flexible manufacturing systems. In this way the number of operations is reduced considerably, time for transition from one operation to another is also reduced and operations can overlap each other. The article describes a method for reduction of lead time of operation (based on the current job flow through workplaces), design of flow diagrams, definition of average lead times of workplaces, and finding the critical workplace that has the biggest influence on the velocity of job flow through production. Necessary measures are proposed for the critical workplace in order to reduce the lead times of operations. Also presented are the results of sample case reduction of lead times in a tool production department.
