  • Welding process assessment by analyzing on line measured acoustic signals
    Grad, Ladislav ...
Nowadays industry has high demands on the welding process reliability and controllability. A lot of effort is used to on line predict and control quality of welds. Weld properties depend on effects ... induced by heat input, chemical processes, metalurgical changes etc. Usually on line monitoring of welding process is performed by measuring different process parameters. In this paper measurements and analysis of acoustic waves generated during gas shielded arc welding process are presented. The acoustic signal produced during the gas metal arc welding (GMAW) contains information about the behavior of the arc column and droplet transfer. In this study a PC based experimental setup was used to perform high speed acoustic waveform acquisition and signal analysis. Measurements were performed in welding two slightly different low content carbon steels: RSt13 with 0,1% C and Ck45 with 0,46% C. Two shielding gases CO2 and gas mixture by its brand name Crystal (90% Ar, 20% CO2) were used to perform GMAW on the slope welding geometry.
