Ugotavljanje celiakije pri ožjih družinskih članih bolnikov s celiakijo - diagnostična vrednost serumskih antigliadinskih in antiendomizijskih protiteles : magistrsko deloDolinšek, Jernej, 1970-The features of coeliac disease are changing. The prevalence of the disease isconstantly increasing, and atypical and asymptomatic forms of the disease are being diagnosed more often. All untreated ... coeliac disease patients are at the risk of developing serious late complications of the disease. The need forearly detection of all patients is therefore obvious and serological markers have proven to be the most powerful tool. Coeliac disease is known to be more common in certain groups. These groups areČ patients with insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, patients with Downćs syndrome, patients with autoimmune thyroid disorders, patients with Sjoegren's syndrome, cystic fibrosis, epilepsy and ataxia, patients with low stature, IgA deficit etc. Family members of known coeliac disease patients certainly represent one of the most important groups. Prevalence of the disease among family members is estimated to be between 1% and 12%. In order to assess the prevalence of the disease among family members of our patients we screened 106 first-degreee relatives of 45 coeliac disease patients. We analysed antigliadin (AGA) and antiendomysium (EMA) antibodies in all family members. Small bowel biopsy was recommended to relatives with positive serology. Biopsy speciemens were histologicaly examined. The prevalence of the disease was calculated as the number of coeliac disease patients among 100 first-degree relatives. Altogether 16 relatives (15.04%) had an increased level of at least one serological marker of coeliac disease. 15 relatives (14.15%) had an increased level of antigliadin antibodies IgG and 5 relatives (4.72%) had an increased level of antiendomysium antibodies. Only 4 relatives (3.77%) had increased levels of both antigliadin and antiendomysium antibiodies.
