  • Simultaneous measurements of velocity fluctuations and smoke tracer fluctuations of a bluff body wake [Elektronski vir]
    Novak, Matej, 1968- ...
In the paper, the performance of a flow visualization system, applied to a simple turbulent flow generated as the wake of a prismatic bluff body in a non-return subsonic wind tunnel, was evaluated by ... direct comparison with a conventional measurement technique, i.e. hot-film anemometry. Simultaneous measurements using both techniques were used to determine the space-dependent velocity-concentration cross-correlation. The existence of such a correlation demonstrates the potential use of concentration fluctuation measurement as a possible process monitoring tool, since in numerous production processes involving turbulent flows, such as mineral wool production and paper production processes, where analysis is required for process monitoring and control, there exists a need for a direct quantitative visualization method. The flow visualization system, was constructed using relatively low cost equipment and was able to monitor a wide variety of wake locations simultaneously giving reliable quantitative results that compared well with conventional velocity measurements.
