    In all languages in contact, the need to designate new objects and concepts arises as well as the necessity to feel lexical gaps. This is why lexical borrowing from economically and politically ... dominant foreign languages occurs. In the era of globalization, English as a lingua franca spreads via the mass media and influences the language of journalism. The co-existence of the mother tongue and English elements may contribute to its enrichment or it may be considered as a threat. The focus of the MA thesis is on describing and analyzing the response to anglicisms in German and Slovene journalistic texts and evaluating the translation procedures. The paper describes the history of the language contact between English and GermanžSlovene, reasons for borrowing and the function of borrowed words. A typology of linguistic borrowing and the attitude towards anglicisms in both German and Slovene are addressed as well. In addition to this, the etymology of Slovene translations and the translation procedures are analyzed.
