Analiza prevodov v antologiji bosanske kratke proze Konec stoletja, začetek tisočletja : diplomsko delo

The thesis is focused on the analysis and study of the adequacy of translated literary texts collected into the anthology of Bosnian short prose End of a Century, Beginning of a Millennium (Konec ...stoletja, začetek tisočletja). Taking into account the variety of linguistic registers of the original texts as well as the two South Slavic languages, Bosnian and Croatian, the thesis opens with the assumption of the existence of several translation deformities arising from the closeness of the two Slavic languages with the Slovenian language. The theoretical portion of the thesis presents the views of literary translation and the status of a literary translation as well as extrinsic influences on the process of translation. This portion also presents the emergence of the Bosnian short story in the 1990s and its sociohistorical context. The empirical portion presents examples of the original text and the translated, target language text in which examples of translational unsuitability are determined. Each analysed case is followed by an argumentative commentary. Based on the Bosnian short story translation analyses we can conclude that both translators faced many translation quandaries with which they were not always able to cope. Translation mistakes occur on all linguistic levels. Too often, we found examples of causeless phrase or sentence structure omissions or conversely literal translations and transfers of words from the source to the target language. As anticipated, the most cases of translational unsuitability occurred on the lexicological level, with semantically unsuitable translations of individual words, as well as on the morphological level where unsuitable translations of grammatical moods and unsuitable uses of tenses in the target language were found.
