  • Pomen nekaterih genetskih polimorfizmov za razvoj ateroskleroze = The role of the genetic polymorphisms in the process of atherosclerosis

Atherosclerosis is a model of multifactorial disorders. Various genetic polymorphisms of different candidate genes are implicated in the pathogenesis of atheroslcerosis. While some genetic ... polymorphisms are related to phenotypical characteristics, others are not. Genetic polymorphisms of renin-angiotensin system, coagulation factors and atherogenic factors were most intensely studied. Insertion/deletion polymorphism of the angiotensin convertase, factor VII gene polymorphism, beta fibrinogen gene polymorphism, and apoprotein E gene polymorphism were associated with coronary artery disease and with ischemic cerebrovascular stroke. No significant association of genetic polymorphisms in the genes for factor V and angiotensin II receptortype 1 was found. Further studies on genetic polymorphisms in other candidate genes are expected to add new information in the understanding of atherosclerosis.
