  • Design and modeling high pressure extraction of vitamin E rich oil from plant material [Elektronski vir]
    Škerget, Mojca ...
In the present work the efficiency of high pressure extraction in the production of oil with high concentration of vitamin E from seeds of Silybum marianum was invastigated. Supercritical fluids used ... were CO2 and propane. In order to determine optimal operating conditions, phase equilibria in binary systems containing @-tocopherol and dense gas were measured at temperatures from 30-80*C and over a pressure range of 10-300bar. Further, solubility of the seed oil in the CO2 was measured and separation factors for the tocopherol-oleic acid were determined. Based on equilibrium data the extraction runs were performed. Operating parameters were 100, 200 and 300 bar and 25, 40, 60 and 80*C for CO2 and 60, 150 and 200 bar and 40, 60 and 80*C for propane, respectively. The influence of process parameters on the total yield and vitamin E content of the extract was investigated. The dynamic behaviour of the extraction runs was analyzed by a mathematical model based on the adsorption - desorption equilibrium of oil from solid tissue, the diffusion of oil to the surface and mass transfer through external film into the bulk.
