The author analyses the areal distribution of the Latin etyma from which older Slovenian Latinisms and Romanisms are derived, taking into account both Romance languages and old loanwords in other - primarily Slavic - European languages. Based on this analysis, a classification of such loanwords into six types is proposed, with a special focus on those limited to the Southern Slavic language area. The discussion singles out two etyma which are not preserved in the Romance languages but survive only as old loanwords in Slovenian.
