CMAJ. Canadian Medical Association journal, 07/2017, Volume: 189, Issue: 26
    Journal Article

Tseng and Selby present five things to know about testing for heritable thrombophilia in acute venous thromboembolism (VTE). Tests for heritable thrombophilia should not be done during an episode of acute VTE, as they are often inaccurate in this context. Protein C, protein S and antithrombin levels are often low during acute VTE and in the presence of anticoagulants, and do not necessarily reflect true deficiency.
