This essay aims to introduce Maurizio Salabelle (1959-2003), one of the most underappreciated Italian authors of the ’90s. After providing an overview of his life and literary activity, the essay explores Salabelle’s poetics by scrutinizing the texts the author published in the literary magazine «Il semplice». In this process, I will underline the affinities between Salabelle and the other authors who contributed to «Il semplice» and, at the same time, I will clarify the reasons for the singularity of his work within the landscape of Italian comic literature at the end of the last century.
