  • Model-based geometric inspection of polymer spur gears [Elektronski vir]

    Reliable and fast inspection of polymer gears is crucial for accurately manufactured gears with a short turnaround. Geometrical parameters enable a comparable inspection of gears. Current inspection ... includes only a few measurements on the gear. We propose a method for a holistic measurement with an optical inspection. The measurement data is afterwards processed with the developed software. With model-based definition, we aim to create a smart system for gear quality evaluation. Model-based definition enables an automatic transfer of dimensions, tolerances and the whole geometry, which is written in the CAD model, to processes such as manufacturing and inspection. The measured data can be automatically compared to the required geometry. Optical inspection with model-based definition is a prerequisite for having a fast and complete inspection of the product. That information can be used to control a manufacturing process, such as injection moulding of polymer gears, where there is a multitude of process parameters. In such a way, we can have a smart system, where process parameters can be adjusted to meet the required tolerances and quality grades of gear geometrical parameters. Results obtained by the proposed and conventional method were compared and a good agreement between the methods was observed. The advantages of the proposed method were also described.
