    ǂIn ǂthe reference model the concept of concurrent engineering (CE) approach forcustomized manufacturing and its implementation in engineer-to-order manufacturing is presented. The emphasis of CE on ... the appropriate organization, integrated knowledge and data base and effective use of CA-tools. In the reference model a comparison between the traditional approach (sequential engineering) and CE is presented.The organizational measures for an effective implementation of CE are described, as well as a new two-stage concept is introduced. This concept is based on a reference product model or so called product template which serves for new product development as well as for order based product customization.
