  • Design of porous catalysts for water and air purification by advance oxidation processes (AOP) [Elektronski vir]
    Novak Tušar, Nataša
Among a wide range of pollutants detected in wastewater and polluted air, organic compounds are an important group. Attractive methods for their treatment are advance oxidation processes (AOPs). ... Hydroxyl radicals ( OH), highly reactive species generated in sufficient quantities by AOPs, have ability to decompose organic pollutants. Most of AOPs use a combination of strong oxidizing agents (e.g. H2O2, O3) with catalysts (e.g. transition metals) and/or irradiation (e.g. ultraviolet and visible light). Since surfaceof the catalyst plays an important role in adsorption and desorption ofthe organic pollutant (e.g. effects on the reaction rate), porous catalysts have an advantage. An overview on the design of catalysts on porous supports for water and air purification is presented with the emphasis on the promisingnewly prepared mesostructured silicate with interparticle porosity.
