  • Private property as value, its nature and dependencies
Polič, Marko ; Novak Zabukovec, Vlasta
After transition to the new economic and political system great changes appeared in Slovenia concerning the problem of property. Earlier state or (common) property rapidly changes into private one, ... by processes of denationalization and privatization. This is a complex matter, and in this study we are interested in its meaning and factors that influence its perception. We try to find out if cognitively there is a general type of private property or specific ones, with different meanings, and different attitudes towards them. Depenedncies of the property representations on the nature of property (factories, forests, fields, etc.), nature of acquisition processes and on some current or historic interests were studying. Therefore asample of 82 students (economy, sport and architecture) from University of Ljubljana was questioned about different aspects of processes of privatization and about property matters. Scales, measuring smoe relevant psychological characteristics, were also used: Belief in a Just World (Dalbert, 1994), The Rokeach Value Survey - RVS (Rokeach, 1968, 1973), Protestant Ethic Scale - PES (Mirell and Garrett, 1971) and Belk's Materialism Scales (Belk, 1984, 1985). Results were analysed and it was established that rather low involvement of our subject caused psychological traits to be ineffective.
