    In the last two decades the still booming family genre has produced a vast and multifaceted amount of family sagas, family novels and factual multigenerational books. Due to this fact research in ... this field of German literary production has deepened and widened, scientists have linked the family genre to theories of memory, to the term of "generation" and to psychoanalytical studies of late trauma-consequences. This paper tries to shed some light on two aspects: an overall view based on a large corpus and a female gaze on family story telling because almost two thirds of the corpus was written by female authors.
