    In this paper the basic characteristics and fundamental operational principle of active magnetic bearings are presented. Also, modern control systems for magnetic levitations and the conventional PID ... control systems, whichs are stll often used in industrial application, are discussed. Included is the mathematical model of the rigid shaft which enables numerical analysis of different control algorithms. In addition, the active magnetic bearing laboratory system presented. Included is a comparion of simulation and experimental results.
